Comments about REI Analog Travel Alarm Clock:

No light so you can't see what time it is in the middle of the night without turning on the bedside light.
The switch that turns the alarm on and off is hard to locate and so small you can only operate it with a fingernail.
The battery is an unusual size that is inconvenient to find.
A classic example of "design-ey": something that looks like it's functional, but is useless.

Comments about REI Analog Travel Alarm Clock:

This is a simple, if too large item, and I thought it would be fine and not prone to breakage cf. something with more bells and whistles. The battery wore out on the second trip, even though it had been stored in a baggy, thus not draining or needlessly running in btw. travels. I tested before departing and two days into trip it was dead. Try replacing a weird sized lithium battery while camped out near Ayers Rock, Australia. Fortunately I had an afternoon flight on my way out a few days later.

Comments about REI Analog Travel Alarm Clock:

Just bought this on the weekend and when I got it home (to Canada) realized that the battery compartment won't close. This might be a defective one, but the clock is very poorly made. Might have a nice case, but the plastic clock feels like a [@] product. Don't waste your money.

Comments about REI Analog Travel Alarm Clock:

I need a loud enough alarm clock for backcountry hiking/camping, where my cell phone doesn't work - no time/no alarm. So it must be lightweight, I'd rather buy spare tiny LR44 batteries (they are very cheap on line) than use heavy AA or AAA. This REI Analog Travel Alarm Clock meets my requirements.

                It's a little big - 3x3x1, but still OK.
Durable: I forgot it in my tent pocket, shook and dropped, that's still working fine.
Time precision was perfect after 24 hour test.
Gradually increasing alarm volume wakes me up even with earplugs.
                Protection cover/case is nice.
                Quiet tick-tacking even without earplugs.

The only negative part was the wrong alarm settings on the first one I bought - beepping 5 hours later than set. So check it right away (better in REI store before paying) and exchange, as I did. Other than that would be 5-star product.

                Overall, I like this clock.

Comments about REI Analog Travel Alarm Clock:

bought this clock several years ago and wanted to review it immediately and forgot. No illumination so if you have it, you need a flashlight to light it up at night. Batteries may be difficult to find in Asia. Reilable clock use it everyday.

Bought this for an extended trip in SE Asia, didn't test before the trip but the alarm feature didn't work upon arrival. We bought the alarm clock for the alarm so annoying that was the feature that didn't work.

Comments about REI Analog Travel Alarm Clock:

I use this all the time on business trips. Simple design, easy to set time/alarm, progressive alarm volume ensures I'll eventually wake up even when wearing earplugs. That's pretty much all I ask from an alarm clock, so it suits my needs nicely. I remove the battery when I'm not using the alarm and keep it (plus a spare) in a mini-ziploc tucked into the edge of the case, so I actually like the smaller-sized button battery.

I work in Afghanistan and often need to catch Marine Air in the wee hours so I needed an alarm clock. This one works but the battery is small and needs to be replaced frequently. More importantly, the battery is an unusual size (not AAA, not AA, etc.)so is not found in the field. This may be OK for Stateside use but even so I would opt for one that runs on AA or AAA.

Foolproof to set, loud alarm. I have dropped it off the nightstand twice and it didn't break. Depite being analog, it is quiet- no annoying loud "tick tock" noise at night. Beware- no way to illuminate the hands in the dark, and no snooze setting. Build quality is fair to good for the price. It uses a button battery, I would prefer a AAA size for ease of replacement.
