Shimano A530 Sport pedals work with cleats and without—you decide whether to clip in or to flip pedals and crank on the wide platform.
- Ideal for recumbents, commuters and recreational cyclists. the SPD compatible step-in system flips over to a concave, stable pedaling platform
- Pedals feature durable chromoly spindles with 8mm Allen wrench mounts and low-maintenance sealed-bearing-cartridge axles
- Includes Shimano SH51 cleats; also compatible with Shimano SH56 cleats, sold separately
- Pedal require 4mm Allen wrench for cleat installation, 3mm Allen for tension spring adjustments and 15mm spanner for pedal installation, all available separately

The pedals are perfect. I was a little hesitant after reading some reviews about how difficult it was to get clip side up or clip in/out but I find they quite easy on both fronts. I did loosen the clip-side tension screw all the way and it is tight enough but not too tight.

I had taken a fall recently when my wheel went into a rut and I could not get my foot out of the lock. I immeditely ordered these pedals. It took a bit getting used to, but I use the clips for distances and kick out of them and use the flat pedals as I approach rough areas or places that I am likely to stop. This has worked very well for me. I am surprised that this is the only pair that I have seen.

Note to self.....practice kicking out before you need to. lol I fell right over after stopping and not kicking out. Only took one time to master!! Great product that allows you to use the entire power stroke of each rotation of the pedal.

These pedals don't do anything well. Clipping in is more difficult than the Shimano double sided. The angle of your foot has to be just right. Unclip ping is easy. The pedal surface is too small for a regular shoe. My foot (size12) tends to slip off. With cleated shoes the actual cleat creates a metal on metal surface which is even more slippery. But.....for frequent stops and starts, they perform ok. When I can stay clipped on the right, and then go a short distance, I can leave my left free to put down quickly, like in urban congestion. On the more open pavement, most other more specific pedals out perform these. I recommend these, with reservations.

Purchased a Trek FX 7.2 a year ago and finaly got around to buying shoes and pedals. I was expecting to fall my first times out, but these pedals feel so natural I can't believe I waited so long.
Install was a breeze, essentially tightning a bolt! Backed the adjustment screw all the way loose and they seem perfect for this point in my riding. My only suggestion is the platform side seems a bit slick, but as good as the cleat side works, don't anticipate riding much with street shoes.
REI employee was quite helpful working me through the choice of pedals and compatable shoes.

I love these pedals. I've had them for over a year now. I commute to work everyday and I bought these out of curiosity. This is my first set of clips, so I thought it would be good to have the option to not wear the cleats if it didn't work out, or if I had to arrive somewhere looking like a man who wasn't wearing cleats. I put them on myself, adjusted the pedals and set the cleats with a little instruction. You get used to it pretty quickly. With the cleats on, your feet naturally find the sweet spot to clip in. The pedals seem weighted to favor the clip side, though I don't know if this is true. It does seem that way, and the only con of these pedals so far has been when I am riding without cleats. It can take a moment when you're starting up from a stop to find the right side of the pedal. All in all, that is a little thing. If you're looking to try cleats out, or if you only have the one bicycle that must function for every situation: these are great pedals.

Great for someone starting with clipless pedals. Easy to go back and forth between clipped in and using the platform for comfort. Really gives additional power while pedaling. Somewhat of a challenge to clip in, but as a first time user I didn't have many issues. I love the fact you can go back and forth depending on your confidence level.
