What I really wanted was to replace my Swiss Army knife, a relatively simple one that had a broken blade. The Skeletool offered a sturdy, non-serrated blade and a few extra tools that I've missed sometimes when backpacking. It fits in a pants pocket, but I didn't want the extra bulk of that belt clip, and when the blade is folded, its back has a very sharp corner that might tear up a pocket. So I used a #8 Torx driver to remove the belt clip (It still has the little "carabiner clip"), and I used a little whetstone to grind down that sharp corner on the back of the blade.
I wish I'd noticed that it doesn't include a can opener, though. While I plan to take my Skeletool hiking, biking, etc., I still carry my broken Swiss Army knife every day and leave the Skeletool at home.

first i purchased the regular skeletool for daily use and around work. its a great tool to have with you for quick use but it isnt very durable. my first skeletool broke after a month of minimal use. i broke the blade off right near the base, when trying to pull a staple out of a box at my work. i took it to my local store and they exchanged it with no hassle and i paid the extra money to get the cx version, because the blade isnt serrated at the bottom.

after about 3 weeks of use, my new knife is already starting to bend at the locking mechanism, and the blade is hard to keep sharp.

i would recommend the knife for occasional light duty use, but if you need it for industrial settings like me, id get something more durable with a better locking mechanism and thicker blade base.

Bought with my dividend dollars, great tool- Has secure on-board storage for both Phillips and flat bits, but BEST OF ALL IS THAT REI REPLACED THIS TOOL AFTER THE FIRST ONE BROKE!!!! I love REI. 4 stars for the tool, the 5th for Customer Service. I'd buy this tool again.

The leatherman Skeletool is a *great* daily carry if it is your second multitool, as a cyclist. As a cyclist, what do you truly need, immediately, as your primary carry? Chances are, a varied Allen or Star wrench, and little else. You don't need scissors. You *might* need tweezers. You sure as h#ll don't need a branch cutter. But you still need a robust cutting edge, for everything from fine-tuned rubber cutting to general rope cutting, ahd you need versatile pliers and a screwdriver for peripheral bike concerns, if not bike spoke or wheel concerns.

The Leatherman is about the best pocketknife available in this class - quailty blade with 2 and only two extra tools. That is, belt-carry blade you can can carry combined with pliers and screwdriver, and *nothing* else, except robust quality x3 for what it delivers, combined with light weight. The easily accessible blade on this thing kicks donkeybutt. Choose appropriately.

I carry the Skeletool everywhere I go. It's my sidearm of choice for my everyday adventures. Every time I use it, I am reminded just how cool it is. I Love this tool. Perhaps the coolest thing about this tool is the design, it is a work of art. You will tumble it around in your hand in awe of it's form and beauty. But make no mistake, this piece of art is not all show......far from it. This thing is useful. The blade is a respectable length, I didn't even blink when it replaced my pocket knife. The screwdriver is handy, I've used it so many times it's ridiculous. The fun thing about this tool is the reaction it has on others...... People react to it, every time you use it, someone will comment on how awesome it is. I like to hand it to people and watch their eyes light up. It's as impressive as it is useful. Thank You Leatherman!!!

The Skeletool CX is a great daily pocket tool. It's light (although the sliver of carbon fiber has nothing to do with that), the blade is A-1 excellent, the pliers are perfect and the tool holder is standardized to fit all the Leatherman bits.

The tool bit will hit the heel of your hand when you use the Skeletool as pliers. If this bothers you, just carry it with the Philips bit, which is slightly rounded, in the holder and the spare bit in the stash spot.

It's as slim as a folding pocket knife, so it's easy to carry in the same manner, much more so than a more traditional leatherman. The side clip is excellent and the tools fits well to hand without requiring one to look to see what you're reaching for.

This knife works great for all sorts of problems. I use it for my summer job as a wildland firefighter, and i couldn't survive without it. be careful where you clip it though, I have had it fall off before, not due to poor craftsmanship but simple bad luck on my part. I found that attaching something with flashy colors to it helps. I just tied some bright orange p-cord in a knot around one end and bam, problem solved.

Another great Leatherman tool. Very cool looking tool and with the Leatherman guality craftmanship. This Skeletool CX will join my other 7 leatherman tools which reside in my car,truck,atv,fishing gear,jeans pocket, and my belt. I never want to be without my Leatherman. I found no problems mentioned in other reviews of this tool like the bits falling out or the latch not holding the bits in place, broken pliers and rustion. Maybe Leatherman has corrected these problems in later productions. As we all should know every tool has its limitations and with abuse it will fail. Also stainless steel will rust ( as mentioned in one review ) but just not as fast as carbon steel if not maintained properly with a light coating of oil.

This tool isn't terrible but it isn't all that great. The pliers on it are pretty weak, I tried to bend a cotter pin and I could feel the jaws on the tool bend and was def fearful they were going to snap right in my hand. Had the tool for maybe a month and its starting to rust. That isn't saying much for a tool that spends 95% of the time in my pocket. I would also like to point out that the "carbon fiber" inlay is totally lame. It isn't real as far as in concerned. The "fiber " rubbed off and there is some metal underneath, it's totally weak. Either its some synthetic material over a mental piece or carbon fiber dust glued to a piece of metal, either way for a 90 dollar tool that seems like a burn. All and all its not worth the money. If you are looking for something to "look cool" maybe, but as for a rugged tool not so much. Its now on my ta do list as a return
