Comments about Black Diamond Transfer 7 Snow Shovel:

Bought this for backcountry snowmobiling. I've gotten stuck more than enough to give it an adequate test I think. It fits well, has a big blade to move a lot of snow per scoop. This was the main reason I chose this shovel over the others. I also like the extendable, removable handle. It is trapezoidal in shape so you can only put it together one way. It seems plenty strong and durable.

The only problem I've had was riding in powder, enough snow dust got into the handle and froze so that I couldn't extend it. I don't really see a way for this to be avoided so I'm still giving it 5 stars.

To the reviewer that hasn't used this shovel, I understand that you have good intentions and appreciate the input. However I have no idea how this shovel is any sharper than any of the others and how you would manage to cut your boots on it. I'll be monitoring for cracks and if mine starts coming apart like the one in the test I'll post back and let everyone know.

Comments about Black Diamond Transfer 7 Snow Shovel:

It is rare that I write a review for a product I have not purchased, but thought I would share some valuable information I found in Avalanche Review by the American Avalanche association.

While doing research before making my avalanche safety purchase, I ran across several independent test pages, the one mentioned above gave this shovel grave reviews. It stated that during testing the top side of the bucket had sharp edge which destroyed the boots that stepped on it during digging. It also cracked where the ramp angle of the blade starts to change to the shaft...and the bucket deformed . It got the worst rating of all 10 avalanche shovels tested.

all the positive reviews on REI's site seem to related to use for light snow removal which seems to be a more appropriate fit.

Comments about Black Diamond Transfer 7 Snow Shovel:

This is a really great car shovel. The aluminum blade is much stronger than cheap plastic shovels, and the telescoping handle is good for reaching under a car to get it unstuck. I am not afraid of breaking or bending this shovel. With the Metrodome-collapsing amounts of snow we have been getting this winter, this shovel will be a permanent resident in my trunk.

Comments about Black Diamond Transfer 7 Snow Shovel:

I live in the SoCal mountains where we got over 4 feet of snow from one storm! This shovel was my life saver it is light and allows me to move a lot of snow quickly. You may not think of using this shovel to clear a drive way for your car or making a path to your door but this shovel really made a differance. I ordered it in Sept and kept it in my car good thing because I was able to dig out of a 3 foot drift. The best thing is that the snow did not stick to the shovel. This was a very wise investment.

Comments about Black Diamond Transfer 7 Snow Shovel:

Bought this shovel for my wife. She needed a shovel for when we are hiking in the Alaska backcountry. BD did a great job creating a light-weight shovel that will both move a good amount of snow but is easy to pack and carry. It has met every expectation I had.

Unfortunately, we haven't used it much in heavy snow conditions so I can't speak to it's strength. That is why I've only given it 4 stars.

Great for how small and light. I used it to chip through very tough ice and it didn't bend a bit. the T Grip is just as good at a handle.
