Comments about Park Home Mechanics Pedal Wrench:

I bought this tool to remove and reinstall pedals for shipping our road bikes.

Our bikes both have Shimano A530 pedals on a road bike. The bottom line is that the tool works for the intended purpose, and it is easy to pack in your shipping box so that you can reinstall the pedals when you arrive at your destination.

I had originally tried the Pedro's Hex Pedal wrench to get my pedals off; I wasn't able to budge the pedals with that tool.

When I returned the Pedro's tool, the bike specialist at REI said that he would always recommend the Park tool instead because it provides much better leverage.

There are more expensive Park models with more leverage, but I found that this Home Mechanics version provided just enough leverage to get the pedals off, while still being small and light enough to pack with me for our bike trips. I have removed the pedals from each bike 3 times, and I have reinstalled the pedals on each bike 3 times: the tool is holding up fine.

Comments about Park Home Mechanics Pedal Wrench:

I used the wrench to remove the left pedal (yes I know it's left hand thread) which I did get off. By the time it was off the jaws had spread and started to round where the nut bit into them. I was unable to remove the right hand pedal because of jaw wear - the wrench simply spun around the nut. The pedals are made by Shimano. Bike is 4 years old and ridden occassionally.

Comments about Park Home Mechanics Pedal Wrench:

I bought this wrench because I needed to swap out pedals for a new bike. I was hesitant to spend the extra money on the professional quality tool (the PW-3), and this wrench did what I wanted it to, it took my pedals off the old bike and put them on the new one.

I did have some trouble getting a good grip on the wrench. So I used a small shop rag to get a better grip on the end and it worked fine. The PW-3 has better grip, and the handle is shaped such that you could slip a pipe over it to increase the leverage. However for my purposes, I don't think I will have much need for that design (if I did, I would go to the bike co-op and use theirs).

The tool, like all Park tools, is built to last. Unless I'm changing tons of pedals, or there's a super-stubborn pedal, I'll stick with this wrench and be glad I saved a few bucks.
