Comments about STABILicers Traction Devices - Unisex:
I've bought two pair of these - one for me and one for my better half. Purchased mine after I broke my leg shoveling snow off an icey concete walkway. Haven't had a slip since though I've honestly tried to get them to loose traction. Used them 6 or 8 times a year for a second year now and they've held up great. Don't wait for them to go on sale, however, as they don't. Previous elastic studded versions ripped out quickly and didn't stay on straight. These are a great improvement.

Comments about STABILicers Traction Devices - Unisex:
Stabilicers are heavier and take more pack space, but definitely offer more traction than YakTrax. I've had mine for at least 5 years and pushed them pretty hard on hikes: cross-country, mixed rock, ice and snow conditions.
I've seen comments about the screws falling out and have a suggestion that works very well for me. I had the same problem early on but then I removed all the screws and sqeezed a little Gorilla Glue into each hole, then replaced the screws. After 4 more seasons, I think I've only lost a couple of screws, and the package comes with replacements.

I use stabilicers to walk my dog, and they work really well for other things I do.

I bought a pair of these many years ago (15?) at an outdoor store that was going out of business. I used them so much during snow storms I have almost worn them out, and was worried I couldn't find them again. I am going to buy a pair for my wife, her car and a pair for my car too. I haven't been on a true hike with them, but when the snow and ice piles up on you when you are at work, slap these babies on your dress shoes or your snow boots and run like heck to the car. I'm also an avid fly fisher, and I am going to start using these instead of felt soled boots for mossy rocks. I am sure they will do the trick.

Great for walking on slick trails in the autumn and winter. I have used mine for two icy winters in New Hampshire's White Mountains. They provide excellent traction on hard packed snow. The velcro straps are fantastic; these feel loose on my boots. Unfortunately, the spikes eventually start to tear out of the sole if you spend lots of time on steep, rocky trails. Once the original spikes start tearing out, any replacement spikes don't stay in very long. It's annoying to know I'm littering the trails with sharp screws.

This product makes it possible to walk on icy steps and driveways and parking lots with confidence. When you are the only one able to walk across an icy parking lot to get the mail, everyone else notices and asks about this product. Gives a wonderful sense of security and levels the playing field during ice storms. It is great to not be scared to go out in horrible conditions. Just don't walk on wood floors indoors!

Comments about STABILicers Traction Devices - Unisex:
I used STABILicers on several winter hikes in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. I found them to grip in snow and ice very well. My wife wore both the Yaktrax and the STABILicers Lite, and my STABILicers gripped much better than either of them. They fit well over my Vasque hiking boots. My only problems are that they are heavier than alternatives like MICROspikes, and during my first hike with them in sub-freezing temperatures, the plastic loop through which the straps are laced broke. This would normally have rendered them useless, but I replaced the plastic loop with a key chain ring. Overall, these are solid, but I would go with MICROspikes unless you will be walking on mixed snow and earth terrain where you might damage the MICROspikes.

I learned about these while on a naturalist hike at about 9,000 in the Rockies. We were on a packed snow trail where no floatation was required. All that I need was increased traction to keep from slipping.
I reviewed my winter mountain travel and found that over 85% of the time, I was on packed trails.
I spent only a little time on unpacked, soft snow.
Now, I carry my snowshoes and were Stabilicers most of the time.
I have also used them when fly fishing for increased grip in the stream. They work well.
They are the best.

Got these before MICROspikes came on the market. They're good, though they slip about some and, unless you're careful, the screws that provide traction can rust on you. That being said, they come on and off easily, are well built, and grip great on ice. A friend has the MICROspikes and we compared.. some differences: MICROspikes fit in a plastic bag/pack easily, these don't (like footbeds with straps), MICROspikes go on a bit quicker. Stabilicers work good on non-icy surfaces (not your kitchen floor, but sandy roads), not sure about MICROspikes there. Also, MICROspikes rely on rubber, which (if YakTraks are any indicator) will ultimately break down. Still, I'd probably buy MICROspikes if I were buying today.

Comments about STABILicers Traction Devices - Unisex:
After boots and poles, these are my most essential gear for any winter mountain hiking. Most easily accessible trails get packed down quickly after new snow, at least near the trailhead. Use STABILicers to hike past the icy or hard-packed parts of the trail to portions where skis or snowshoes are necessary.
These are much more useful than crampons for most mountain hiking, because they are light, fit any boot, offer great traction in a wider range of situations, and are utterly simple to put on and take off, even in extremely cold, windy conditions.
Perfect product.
