Comments about REI XR 8 x 25 Waterproof Binoculars:
Finally a pair for people who wear glasses. I love these!

Comments about REI XR 8 x 25 Waterproof Binoculars:
First let me say I have had great luck with REI bins; I picked these up as a last minute emergency pair having left my quality glass at home. My first impression; "This will probably be fine". Not "wow" or "niice". The lightweight compact binos suffer from being too light to hold steady, the 10x25 version of these bins were just too unstable for me so I purchased the 8x25's. A little weight really does go a long way with binoculars in stabilizing your hands, and if your worried about the weight get some double straps, it really does lighten the load. The image in these was not very satisfactory; besides the claustrophobic sensation of the narrow field of view and poorly aligned lenses, the image was far less crisp than adequate. From 20 meters I was having trouble making out detail on some fairly large birds. I have used the REI 8x32's and they are a magnitude better quality at a very slight weight and price penalty (129.00 vs 85.00) and I would opt for that pair over these for a compact, portable bottom-of-the-backpack "just in case" pair of binoculars.

Comments about REI XR 8 x 25 Waterproof Binoculars:
I compared these to similar models @ REI. I found the single pivot point easier to use than models with dual pivot points. Views from both eyes line up effortlessly. images are even, bright and crisp. In use at a baseball game, 8x magnification seemed just right, 10x might have produced too much image jitter with handheld use. Lens caps for eyepieces can be secured, but the others can not and are sure to be lost. Great specifications and performance at this price point, small enough to become a regular part of my daypack.

Comments about REI XR 8 x 25 Waterproof Binoculars:
I just recently took delivery of these REI Binos, and I am really impressed! I have several binos, all more expensive than these, but these are really nice for the money. I was especially impressed with the range of the diopter adjustment. My eyes are extremely different, and most binos don't have enough range in the diopter adjustment on the right eyepiece to bring both sides into complete focus for my eyes, but these do! I had a different 8 X 25 waterproof compact binocular that succumbed to being less than waterproof and now I'm glad they did, or I wouldn't have purchased these. Great buy for the money. Good quality of construction and quality glass lenses.

Comments about REI XR 8 x 25 Waterproof Binoculars:
I bought these as a gift for my dad for backpacking trips, but ended up using them ourselves to track our lost dog through the fields in countryside after he escaped from the dog sitter. I'm not too familiar with the world of binoculars, but these were light, sturdy, easy to adjust, and bright and clear enough to follow a small red dog through a brown grassy field at 1/4 mile or more.

Comments about REI XR 8 x 25 Waterproof Binoculars:
Good small form factor bins at a reasonable price point are very hard to find. These are o-ringed and nitrogen purged, and water/dust resistant. I plan on using them when we can't pack our good bins due to space or risky travel. Good long eye relief, I can use them with my glasses on. Come with top/bottom lens covers and rugged cordura case. Sticky central focus, but otherwise rugged. Good daypack bins; not substitute for good 8x42 for serious viewing.

Comments about REI XR 8 x 25 Waterproof Binoculars:
My wife bought a pair of these last year, and having broke mine I borrowed hers for a weekend of hunting. I've used and owned a lot of binoculars, but this pair I found fantastic for the money. Particularly impressive is the quality of the lenses. Most of the time in this price range you don't find a set of lenses that match, so you always have the perception that you're looking thru two separate tubes. Not so with these. Images were crisp, clear, and balanced. Once dialed in you get a great image down to within 2-3 yards of where you stand. The 8 power gives a great field of view with ample light when in the woods. Very light and did not cause any neck strain.
