Comments about Sea to Summit Kitchen Sink - 5 liter:
I got this because I wanted to save room in my kayak holds by leaving the large pot behind, which I only used for washing. And I needed something that I could use reliably in salt water.
It takes some breaking in but then seems to work well. When it first comes, the wire rim is still twisted a bit, making an uneven rim that made it practically unusable. But after four or five uses, that worked itself out. Now, the more I use it, the better it works. After a week, it never sloshed out and held its shape well.
I found also that it you submerge it then lift straight up, it retains just the right amount of water so that it keeps its form. Too little or too much water will make a mess.
It never really dries out on the trail, not even over night, though that might just be where I'm camping. But, I never noticed any smell or problems when rinsed with clean sea water. And the case is has air holes, but seems to keep the dampness contained when you pack it away damp.
Overall,it is a pretty useful item. Saves lots of space and weight and serves as a wash basin and bucket, both pretty essential for me.

Good sink. If not dried well and stored before it completely air dries -you will have mildew and it can smell funky. Tips over I'f you over fill it. Compact and easy to carry.

Comments about Sea to Summit Kitchen Sink - 5 liter:
This is a piece of junk! Does not work as advertised. I was excited about using this for lightweight camping and tried it out at home. I filled this about 1/2 way and set in on the kitchen counter as if I was ready to wash dishes. It immediately collapsed and flooded the counter!! No directions are included so I experimented every which way I could think of: 1/4 full, 1/3 full, all full, twisted the wire back and forth, inside out, cold water, hot water....same result--collapsed. A partner could sit there an hold it for you but that is a waste of time and defeats the purpose. It could be a bucket, just dont turn it loose. Poor product.

Comments about Sea to Summit Kitchen Sink - 5 liter:
I use this 5 litre unit in the following manner: I will wash the camp dishes in this unit, and use a 10 litre unit filled with cold water for the rinse.
In the 5 litre goes warm water. it is inserted into the 10 litre which has cold water in it.
This causes the exterior to harden (5 litre), while the interior retains warmth for the required duration, to get the dishes done.
I then remove the 5 litre, leaving the 10 litre still filled with water. I then rinse the dishes in the 10 litre unit.
I have the 5 litre for water purfication and shorter trips, and the 10 litre when the trips are longer.
HOW TO STIFFEN YOUR BASIN SO IT WON'T COLLAPSE.
It's easy to do. Why the supplier doesn't do it has to do with bragging rights, as they apply to weight. There is always an objection to weight since you must carry "it" if traveling a trail.
Car camping - no big deal, uphill?? It can be.
This is what to do, and it works well:
Buy reinforced packing tape: The kind which is semi translucent, but has fiber filaments embedded into the tape.
You will cut four inch pieces and tape them onto the outer surface, starting from the bottom of the upper fabric collar of the container. They should reach just to the bottom edge of the basin.
This is repeated at intervals of about two to three inches apart. You will then perform the same application HORIZONTALLY all the way around the upper part of the basin, to overlap the first strips you applied.
You will then do the SAME to the bottom edge of the first strips applied. This will serve to stiffen the unit, and make it free standing, when filled with water.
When this is performed, the fabric is stiff enough to withstand hot water and will not lose its' memory and collapse.
Or you can do the following:
Buy an REI shopping bag, fold down the upper reaches until it is six or seven inches high. Use this for hot water, and the other for rinsing.
On shorter trips, this is what I do. The shopping bag acts as a harvest bag as well. This allows me to gather small bits of wood for a camp fire. Thus the bag - which folds very small and has handles, acts to perform many functions.
As an example, I've used it before as a bear bag placed high in a tree.
In a pinch, you can cut it up and make a partial rain cover for a pack, a rain bonnet, or even a small over hang for a cooking stove when it's raining. Lots of uses and all for a buck!!
The basin is a good product and works fairly well. Simply consider what works best for you!!!

Comments about Sea to Summit Kitchen Sink - 5 liter:
This is a great addition to anyone who is group backpacking 3 or more, I use it for dishes and works okay. What I mean by that is after you fill with your dish water it wants to dump itself out. We make it a group effort, one person holding the sink and other washing. We made it work, but I wish it performed better. Still, I haven't found anything else out there to replace it with, so with that it is the best option in my mind out there.

Can not wait to buy another for cooking/filtering, in addition to the one I have for hand/face washing. Best thing ever, light, packable and makes for one easy trip to the creek at the end of a long day. It's true, unless it's filled you do have to tilt with one hand and cup and splash with the other but 1) doesn't bother me 2) just fill it, you'll use the left over water anyway. Sits as a stable upright basin on uneven ground and precarious tree stumps.

Comments about Sea to Summit Kitchen Sink - 5 liter:
I bought this so I can have the convenience of washing my dishes after dinner and breakfast away from camp and water sources. I have found it to work very well for that as long as it is filled up and the water is COLD. My first time using it was in the Sierras in early June w/ temps in the low 20's and 5ft of snow on the ground. I filled it w/ excess warm water after dinner and it wouldn't hold its shape. I dumped it and scooped it full of river water and it stood right up! One of the last things I wanted to do was wash dishes w/ cold water in the low 20's but there is a certain level of comfort we all abandon while trekking in the back country. This product seems to bridge the gap a little.
On the down side, it doesn't dry to quickly. It comes w/ a little pouch that zippers closed and compacts it very well however, if it goes in damp and you have several days of hiking, it doesn't have time to dry and starts to smell of mildew fairly quickly. In warm weather, after breakfast, dry it best you can and leave it out to dry while breaking down camp. In cold weather, you may have to hike w/ it lashed to you pack so it gets air. I would normally keep it in a water tight sack which after a while has proved ineffective for the reason of it's slow drying.
All in all, it's a pretty neat little product even though it could use some improvements. It serves as a good water basin for face and hand washing after a long day on the trail as well as a must have next to your camp fire.

Comments about Sea to Summit Kitchen Sink - 5 liter:
My wife bought this for our camp kitchen and at first look I thought it was a great idea. The first time we used it we were disappointed. It is a great concept, but a poor execution. It isn't supported or sturdy enough to hold a "bowl" shape as you fill it. It flattens out..spreads out...best description I can give without pictures. If you are willing to add enough water to fill it, it does work, but isn't really worth the money or the wasted water. I'd recommend thinking twice before buying one of these. I only give it 2 stars because technically it does function as a basin, it is light and very compact...

Comments about Sea to Summit Kitchen Sink - 5 liter:
I purchased this product to wash dishes and hands/face while backpacking. It is lightweight and is useful for scooping a good quantity of water. However, as other reviewers have pointed out, this portable sink does not hold more than ~two cups of water on it's own without spilling out. It makes washing anything difficult as you are forced to hold one of the handles to keep the water from spilling out which if tough when you are trying to rub your hands together or wash dishes. It's also difficult if you are trying to fill the bag with a filter outlet hose.
The material Sea to Summit chose to use for this product seems to absorb water and is slow to dry.

Comments about Sea to Summit Kitchen Sink - 5 liter:
Have used it for bathing and dish washing. Left water in for a few hours and it developed a slow leak. Good for small dishes, but seems to sink into itself so isn't as deep as I would like, a stiffer material might have been better.
Would probably be good for making water filtration more convenient.
Packs small and light, though can be tricky to get into package it comes with.
