Comments about Jetboil FluxRing Fry Pan - 8":

I purchased this pan months ago then began reading the reviews, and I got concerned that I purchased the wrong one... But then I actually used the pan. I love backpack camping, but I also love to cook so I don't mind taking a few more cooking tools into the field.

The pan works well when you know how to cook, and you don't overdue the heat on items like eggs or instant meals. If you are frying up meat like sausage or chicken breast and want to brown it a bit more don't be afraid to turn up the heat but if your using an actual Jet boil stove element the center of the pan gets WAY hotter then the edges, on my other backpacking stove where the heating element is larger and more spread out the pan does much better in heat distribution.

The pan is hard to clean, if you compare to a non-stick pan, but that doesn't bother me much.

Overall I am pleased with my purchase, and until I wear it out, this will be the only fry pan I take in my pack.

Comments about Jetboil FluxRing Fry Pan - 8":

I like the Jetboil system -- a lot; but I was disappointed with this pan (which I received as a gift for Christmas 2011). The patent-pending heat ring does not distribute the heat evenly across the pan: the center gets hot (fast), but the middle and outer periphery lags. As a result, you can easily and quickly burn your food if you're not careful. Also, the pan doesn't seem to have any special coating that prevents burn-ins; after just two uses, I ended up with some burned food residue in the center that I have not been able to get off completely. I guess as long as you're heating some prepared "soupy dish" you're fine. But if you you'd like to be more creative (e.g., create some omelets from scratch or cook up some roasted veggie dish with meat), your cooking mileage may vary.

Comments about Jetboil FluxRing Fry Pan - 8":

This frying pan does just what it is designed to do: cook simple meals on a Jetboil stove. It's also light and seems to be durable. Others have said that it is too "hot" and is difficult to clean, but I disagree. In order to keep the weight down the pan is necessarily thin, so it heats quickly and easily; all you need is a LITTLE heat. Turning up the flame will burn your food and make cleaning difficult. Keep the flame low and everything works as advertised. I am faulting it in one area: the price is too high.

Comments about Jetboil FluxRing Fry Pan - 8":

Even after the poor reviews, I still bought this based on the satisfaction of other Jetboil purchases. Keep the flame down, it is very efficient. Heat up the pan on a low flame, then poor in the oil. I recently sauteed diced garlic, jalapenos, steak. Pulled the steak out and scramble real eggs. Some eggs did naturally stick, but cleaned up nicely. The center is hotter because that is where the flame is. The metal is thin for obvious reasons. Pay attention to the center of the pan. I wish everything was less expensive and easier to clean. This pan works as designed and is as easy to clean as other pans. If you've bought into the Jetboil system you'll find this is a perfect fit.

Comments about Jetboil FluxRing Fry Pan - 8":

I got this skillet to cook the trout I catch when I am backpacking. I can't complain. It isn't teflon coated (which I like). If I had to guess I would say it is anodized, but I am not 100% sure. I am very happy with the pan. It is very light, it fits on my JetBoil (with the required Jetboil Pot Support and Stabilizer). However, it seems expensive. I paid [$] for this pan plus another $15 for the Jetboil Pot Support and Stabilizer.

I read all the reviews and I have one comment, " turn down the heat!" even in my kitchen I use low heat when cooking, you need to do the same thing with any frying pan. That is why the guy that had success frying eggs, he cook them very low. Take some cooking classes! you'll eat better on the trail.

Comments about Jetboil FluxRing Fry Pan - 8":

We had to return our entire Jet Boil System because we got this fry pan as a part of it. The Fry pan was not handy for backpacking trips, so we didn't take it with us on our annual hike in the high sierras. It took us 2 years to find a use for it, on a car camping trip. We tried to make Pancakes. The pan was way too hot and absolutely seared the cakes to the base. And when we went to flip them with the Jet Boil spatula, the spatula melted to the fry pan ruining the food and the pan. When REI tried to get Jet Boil to replace the pan, they said it was past the warranty date (though this happened on the first use) and so REI had to make us return the entire set including the stove so we could get a replacement stove. It was a wedding gift, and we were so sad to part with our stove, which had accompanied us on our honeymoon and subsequent trips. Overall a big bummer.

Comments about Jetboil FluxRing Fry Pan - 8":

Just like the Jetboil mug, the pan gets things really hot, really fast... but that's about all it's good for.

The center of the pan was definitely the hot-spot, and whatever food item touched it instantly welded itself to the pan. I worked on control with several different food items, but cannot seem to find a point that will cook-not-scorch.

I was looking forward to using the Jetboil as a cooking system, but have come to realize that the Jetboil is good for one thing only- getting water hot fast.

I'll be returning this somewhat useless frying pan (as well as the $20 pan stabilizer kit to REI.

Comments about Jetboil FluxRing Fry Pan - 8":

I couldn't wait to try this thing out and did so right in my kitchen. And, since there's nothing like a good, hearty breakfast at 6:30 in the evening, out came the breakfast stuff, hash browns, brown-n-serve sausage links and eggs.
The first thing I tried to cook with it was hash brown potatos. They welded themselves to the bottom of the pan almost immediatly despite over doing the cooking oil a tad. I thought I'd just ruined a rather expensive pan. Happily, once it cooled, it cleaned up to point it looked unused. After a dozen eggs, the first few of which were all but carbonized, again despite the cooking oil, I finally figured out (mostly) how to get some heat control. Through all of that, the pan still looks brand new. The only thing used to clean it was plain water and a scrub pad for non-stick pans.
The sausage links came out fine the first time, by the way.

After several hours of practice and the addition of a lid, I finally figured out some tecniques that worked for me and didn't scorch the food.

            Recommendations:
Practice at home or don't try to cool "low temp" food (like eggs).
Have the garbage can handy. (Or the dog, he'll love you for it ;-)
            Be paitent

Jetboil folks: This thing really needs a lid. It would help a lot with temperature control. Also, the handles feel flimsy despite appearing to be mounted securely. Perhaps a wire bale to hold the halves together would work.

Comments about Jetboil FluxRing Fry Pan - 8":

I LOVE my jetboil, and I figured it would be nice to have a frying pan for making some small breakfast items... so I picked up theirs.
The 'flux ring' transfers heat very well and the pan will heat up in seconds on the jetboil.
Unfortunately that is the ONLY good thing that can be said about it. Sure the handles were not all that well designed and felt a bit flimsy, but the big issue is...
this pan is the OPPOSITE of non-stick. It works some kind of magic for maximum stick. After one use we spent 40 min trying to scrub it clean with soap, scrubbing pads, and even scraping with sticks. Nothing worked.
The pan has been returned to REI and I am happy to see it is no longer available.
