Comments about Mountain Hardwear Downtown Coat - Men's:
I needed a coat for waiting at the bus stop in MN for 20min in down to below zero weather. With gloves and thermal underwear I can stay in those conditions and be comfortable for 30 min (not tried longer yet) and I'm what they call a "freeze baby" :-) The neck is elastic eliminating the need for a scarf, which is great. It beats back MN cold when just standing there so I have no gripes.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Downtown Coat - Men's:
Love this coat, temps here have been in the mid 20s at night and low 60s as the peak day temp; the coat is very comfortable with mild activity with temps in the 50s or in the 60s with low or no activity . Last week several hours in 5' of snow and temps in the low 20s, with mid weight base layer and was toasty warm.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Downtown Coat - Men's:
I wrote an earlier review in Oct 2010 that the zipper was bad, but REI replaced the jacket even though it was more than one year after purchase. The replacement has been great, no zipper problems. I think the first time I just happened to get one with a bad zipper. Now I love this jacket and recommend it. I just wish it had more pockets or a large inside pocket; there is plenty of space for one. I rarely add an extra layer when I wear this, it's so warm. Great service from REI on this too!

I'm a rock climber and this coat squeezed my armpit in an uncomfortable way. I returned the coat using REI's great return plan.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Downtown Coat - Men's:
I've only had this coat for about a month so far, so I cannot yet make comment on it's durability. But it seems to be very durable and very well made.
It's been my 'everyday coat' since the day I got it. Have taken it snowshoeing over the New Year's weekend and it kept me very warm and cozy with nothing but a short-sleeved merino wool shirt underneath. I love the length (mid-thigh) and have found the 2 way zipper to be very handy (like when it gets a little too toasty, just open up the bottom for some ventilation; or when I'm getting in my car to drive, just unzip the bottom about 6 inches for comfort and freedom).
I read in a product description that the outside pocket on the chest is for an MP3 player and that there is an opening for your earbuds, but i couldn't find it. Not an issue for me, but maybe for some?
All in all, this is by far the happiest I have ever been with a coat. The only thing I would add if I could, would be big storage pockets in front of the handwarmer pockets, but I'm not complaining. By the way, the handwarmer pockets are microfleece lined and super warm and cozy!

I had high hopes when I unboxed my new Mountain Hardwear Downtown Parka this evening. Nice fabric, looks good. Fits well. So I pulled I on and went for a short walk (it's 25 deg F out). What? My arms were cold! How could this be? It's a winter parka with down fill, for crying out loud! So back to the house. I pulled the sleeved inside out and discovered that the baffles are hugs and they are mostly devoid of down.I'm sure that Mountain Hardwear is saving a lot [*]The problem is that the product is junk. It's likely that the goose down is actually duck feathers. Never again. I will never order another Mountain Hardwear product!

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Downtown Coat - Men's:
I was amazed how many people drank the Kool-Aid on how this coat is not warm and blah blah blah. To begin, this coat is great for either East Coast or Colorado weather. I've worn this in both. It's ridiculously comfortable, stylish, and can withstand NEGATIVE degree temperatures. Sure, If you really think you need an Everest-style coat because if the Earth freezes you will be OK, well, go spend $800 and buckle up. I am absolutely positive this coat will work for 99% of you (provided it fits). This was a gift, so I can't say the value is $350; nonetheless, I tried on over 20 coats at REI and this one was even nicer than the $300 marmot and all patagonia styles. If you are the layering type, well then of course look elsewhere. I like to layer at times, but not always. I do get swayed via reviews, but go try it on and you will realize most people that agreed with the negative reviews likely never bought one.

The reviews i've read have been mixed. but in just my first week of regular wearing this coat ROCKS! its really light but i'm finding it really warm (almost too warm on a busy subway train). Wonder if Mountain Hardware did something to bulk up the down in the arms as that was the one complaint people had from previous years versions.

Very nice coat for cold Michigan Winters. Sufficient down all over (including sleeves)with wind/waterproof outer shell and hood. I read some of the other reviews and some of these folks obviously got a different coat than I bought. Mine is great!
