Comments about CamelBak Elixir - 12 Serving:

I used these while working on water projects at the peak of the dry season in India. The daytime temps were around 110 and the lows were in the upper 90s. Multiple days working hard and hiking in this weather made these a go-to product.

Interesting taste. Tastes different (maybe better) than gatorade, propel, or crystal light. It's a light flavoring. It left no residue in my bladder. The only reason I tried it was because it was [$] and I wanted something new.In the end, I would not spend over $5 for these.

These are great. They dissolve quickly and leave no grit at the bottom of the bottle. They are not sweet and do the trick of a long ride. Perfect for a hot day.

Comments about CamelBak Elixir - 12 Serving:

I liked the ease of use and sugar-free composition of the elixir tabs. The taste was okay too. However, I noticed that my fingers swelled quite a bit when I used these on a long hike, more than with a competing brand. I'd recommend these, but I would mix them to a less concentrated amount to lessen the amount of sodium in each drink.

Comments about CamelBak Elixir - 12 Serving:

I threw these into my backpack for a recent high altitude backpack with a group. Despite lots of water, the first day was tough. Three of us developed some dehydration and nausea and these worked for each of us. I put one tablet in a liter of water and the Orange Alert flavor tastes great. I personally appreciate the caffeine as I usually drink diet coke. I'll be buying more soon.

Comments about CamelBak Elixir - 12 Serving:

I use a Camelbak fairly regularly in the normal course of my work. The "Gatorade" type drink powder my employer provides A) contains *a lot* of sugar and makes me ill and B) makes a huge mess in a Camelbak if it isn't cleaned throughly and regularly!
Elixir doesn't make a mess, is easy to use on the move in both a hydo pack and water bottles, and tastes pretty good.
I've been using this since the summer of '08 and found that 2 tabs in a 32 oz. Nalgene, 5 in my 3 L. Camelbak work well for me.

The price is why I didn't give it that 5th star as it's expensive at over $4/gal but the convenience is worth it.

Comments about CamelBak Elixir - 12 Serving:

The REI website does not indicate this, but most of the flavors contain caffeine. I know that the green Lemon Lime does NOT have caffeine, so that's the one I buy. It's a GREAT product for use in Camelbak bladders to avoid having to clean them thoroughly after every use, unlike sugar-containing supplements. Also, I get no cramps after 8 hours on the trail when I use this, unlike plain water. It mixes on its own due to fizzing and does not go bad if you leave the bladder unrefrigerated for days. Downsides are (1) it is VERY expensive [$] to treat one 100oz bladder with what is essentially 1/2 cent worth of minerals) and (2) carrying the entire thick plastic tube of 12 tablets is uneccesary weight in a backpack; I would prefer foil pouches containing 2 tablets if available.

Comments about CamelBak Elixir - 12 Serving:

Doing a comparison of all the latest sugar-free electrolyte tablets. This one has a subtle flavor that won't make you carry regular water to chase it down with. Long time Cytomax user looking for alternative. The "effervescence" description should really mean "gassy" as it tends to taste/feel a bit like a serving of Emergen-C or Alka-Seltzer. Despite the carbonations role to help the tablet dissolve it does die quickly and is typically gone within 10 minutes or so. I do like that it leaves virtually no residue, but that doesn't mean you wont be able to taste it if you simply refill your bottle/bladder with water afterwards. Overall 3.5 stars would be my vote, but since "half stars" are not allowed I'll round down due to price.

I used to carry Gatorade powder on long desert hikes (four or five days), but I got tired of the sugar crash and cleaning gunk out of my bladder. I switched to this product to get away from the sugar, and I am very pleased with it. I use it after running (4.5 miles or so) and on desert hikes. No sugar crash, and no mess to clean up. It's expensive, but very good.
