Comments about Outdoor Research Deluxe Spring Ring Headnet:

I bought one of these in 1998 and wore it through a month of canoeing in Quatico Canada. The bugs were so thick you could not see your friend's face if they were 10 feet infront of you. This head net made every one unbelievably jealous. Theirs were much more difficult to use and much less effective. There are some more reasonable choices on the market now. But the metal ring around the front of the net allows you to move around and get things done without worry of the net coming into contact with your face. The weight of the ring is negligible.

on the down side the ring makes it all a bit more bulky and it can get in the way when not in use. Also the ring makes it difficult to use the net for other purposes like filtering water or using as an impromptu stuff sack. I dont live in an area now where I need a headnet except for in rare circumstances (and even then not for mosquitoes) and I think I want to use it more for alternate purposes than a head net so I think I will pick up one without a ring. but I gotta tell ya, I have only had to put a few stitches in the net and it is still fine fourteen years later. If you need a Dedicated headnet that you will be relying on AS a headnet EVERY day, Get This one. if your looking for something more multi purpose and less frequently needed go with one without the hoop.

Comments about Outdoor Research Deluxe Spring Ring Headnet:

This product has saved my sanity! Currently I use it in the wetlands/prairies to keep the mosquitos, gnats, and flies away from my face. I work outdoors collecting data, so I stand still quite a bit and need my hands for things other than swatting insects. The visibility is good; I can look through a pair of binoculars without having to lift the net. I've even forgot that I was wearing it and tried to drink from my water container! The drawstring is great because you can secure it tightly around your neck. I often wear a bandana around my neck to keep the netting from being itchy on my skin. Also, I wear a ball cap underneath it, so you don't necessarily need a sunhat. The metal ring does a great job of keeping the netting off of your face, too. I have been using this product for a week now, and I am interested to see how long it will last me until I need to purchase another one. As with all insect-repelling material, I imagine that I'll probably catch it on something and rip a hole in the netting. But so far so good!

Comments about Outdoor Research Deluxe Spring Ring Headnet:

Let me start off by saying that I live, work, fish and camp in Michigan's UP, and if you know anything about da UP you know that the black flies are hellish here. They will swarm on you and crawl all over your clothes searching for a way under your clothes to get at your skin.
The drawstring on this net prevents this and can be drawn down tight without rubbing or irritating my neck. I wore my net while doing stream research in Hiawatha National Forest and while fly fishing. It is super light to carry and quick to unpack and put on over a big hat when you run into a nasty patch of skeeters or flies. I used my net both on the stream and while brush busting from site to site.
After pulling many pickers and several trout flies out of this net I found no significant holes or rips in my net, I was so impressed! The only downfall I found with this product was when I wore both it AND my polarized fishing glasses it really cut my visibility down when trying to locate rising trout, but it really just takes some getting used to. Well worth the price, so durable and keeps the nasties out of my face, and I would pay much more in bug spray over the years I anticipate this net lasting.

Comments about Outdoor Research Deluxe Spring Ring Headnet:

This keeps bugs out of your face. Period. I worked in Florida wetlands for 3 years & somehow never bought a headnet, but on a summer traverse of Denali NP it saved my life. The ring keeps it from being too claustrophobic, and the material is very transparent and breathable. It could be a little longer-the cinch cord will sometimes roll over my larynx and expose a couple of inches of tasty flesh to the hordes.

Comments about Outdoor Research Deluxe Spring Ring Headnet:

I just got off a 1 week PCT hike in Oregon and I might have gone crazy without this! I have nylon clothing so cannot use DEET. My hands are a mess with so many bites but my face and neck are almost bite-free because of this head net. I love the ring-it keeps the little biters at a distance! When I left the trail I passed mine on to a thru hiker who did not have a bug net (now I need to get another).

Comments about Outdoor Research Deluxe Spring Ring Headnet:

After an incredibly buggy trip in BC years ago, I won't leave home without it. The wire rim twists to form a small circle for storage. Can be worn with/without a hat on the inside. Sometimes have wished for a small zipper opening for eating, otherwise, couldn't be better.

Comments about Outdoor Research Deluxe Spring Ring Headnet:

I must admit, I haven't used this product very much. I bring it with me every trip, but it has to be pretty bad for me to break out the net. When I do, I always wonder why I need this silly ring.

The manufacturer says the metal ring keeps the net off my face. I would rather wear a rimmed hat and simply put the net over the cap. This way, I could pack the net smaller and it would be more likely to be kept in a more convenient location on my person.

But when weather is humid and the mosquitos are all over, you'll definitely be glad you brought one of these... or something similar.
