Comments about CatEye Strada Wireless Bike Computer:

My cateye has traveled with me for 4 years and 8,000 wonderful miles. It has endured rain, snow, heat, and cold without issue. I have had to replace the battery 1 time but no issues. I have enjoyed it so much that when my wife purchased her first bike last year we bought the exact same model. I highly recommend!

Comments about CatEye Strada Wireless Bike Computer:

I have this computer on most of my bikes. I love this whole-face-button idea. Makes it easy to push with thick gloves, wrist, palm, or any other way you find comfortable. It is compact and looks sleek with an easy to read display. It's true it gets confused when your front light is in flash or dim-power mode because of the involved electrical pulsation. However i am fine with this as i doubt it other simple wireles computers do better in this department. I have one big note to CatEye: please fix this clock! The clocks on half of my cateye wireless computers run off by a minute per week. Even the early [*] watch imitations in the 70's had more accurate clocks.

Comments about CatEye Strada Wireless Bike Computer:

I've used the CatEye Strada Wireless for 18 months now, and it works well for me, with a couple of exceptions:

          1) Changing the battery on the receiving/display unit is difficult - the battery has a cover that really has to be pried out.

          2) The procedure for re-entering the odometer reading when changing the battery is confusing. Check out the YouTube video that demonstrates this if you have problems.

          3) The NiteRider MiNewt 350 headlight interferes with receiving the signal from the transmitter. I haven't observed interference from any other sources, including the MiNewt 250, so I think this is really a problem with the headlight, and not the CatEye.

The battery life is good - I had to replace the batteries at around 14 months and 4000 miles for both the transmitter and the display.

          Strap/Bracket is a weak link

          • Was not able to use it

Comments about CatEye Strada Wireless Bike Computer:

Was not able to use the computer. When installing the specialised bracket/strap that holds the computer to the handle bars, it broke. This is the only way to attach it to the bike. I then realised this was not a good thing, if it had happened while I was riding the computer would fall to the ground and could be lost. I returned it to REI and exchanged for a Cateye Micro that uses two zip-ties for mounting the computer. I think this is a safer route, if one breaks the second one will keep it from falling off the bike. The other bonus, zip-ties can be purchase anywhere if you need a replacement.
The computer and sending unit may work great, but I was not able to find out.

Comments about CatEye Strada Wireless Bike Computer:

I just bought this a week ago. It seems like a nice enough unit. The positive is that it is extremely easy to install. I also like the wireless feature. The negatives are that it is difficult to read while riding. I bought the Bike Planet computer for my son's Mtn. Bike. It does everything the Cateye does plus tells the temprature, and is easier to read all for [$] less. I'll stick with the Cateye though. I did read some reviews about it failing to work even after the batteries were replaced. If this occurs then I'll return it to REI [...], and get the Bike Planet computer.

Comments about CatEye Strada Wireless Bike Computer:

This unit appealed because it is wireless and the one-button selector works reasonably. The stem mount option was necessary for my cyclocross bike because the auxiliary brake levers take a lot of handlebar space. It was easy to install. The computer flipped out of the mount until I realized it needed to click into place, after which it stayed in place. The crippling feature is that the computer resets itself during rides. This has happened repeatedly; it is very frustrating to lose the ride information. In spite of this, the total mileage seems to record accurately.

Comments about CatEye Strada Wireless Bike Computer:

The product itself is just OK. The real problem is that the computer won't stay clipped to the handlebar mount. This is a huge problem when going over bumps or grates which can jar the computer loose. It's fallen off twice and the third time it was lost forever somewhere along the road. I don't recommend this one!

Comments about CatEye Strada Wireless Bike Computer:

The Strada does all that it is advertised well. Despite heavy rain (Seattle!), it has remained waterproof for over 2 years. The negative is that the spoke / fork mount is very touchy; I have flat spokes and an aerodynamic fork and it could have been made better to fit both. However, I give high marks to this unit and could recommend it.

Comments about CatEye Strada Wireless Bike Computer:

I broke two mounting brackets (the small clip that connects the computer to the bracket) after several days of use each. Granted, this occured in February, and the cold weather likely made the plastic bracket brittle, but I was disappointed nevertheless. Overall, while I like Cateye products, there mounting brackets for lights and computers are of low quality and rarely make it through a season. I've gone back to computers that have a twist and lock mechanism, which seems more durable.

Comments about CatEye Strada Wireless Bike Computer:

I have been using one of these computers on my bike for about 500 miles, and have found it to be a great little tool. I love racing myself every morning on my commute to work. It's very simple to use, and is easy to read, as long as you're in a lighted area. The addition of a backlight would be nice, but it's certainly not a deal-breaker. I usually am too busy concentrating on riding to look down, and think the unit does a pretty good job of telling me what I need to know after I'm done.

One negative experience that I had with the product happened during a freak weather situation here in Atlanta... It was when it was snowing heavily. The unit seemed to ice over and stopped receiving communication from the magnet. Again, a freakish situation for me, but may be a little more common for people who are used to riding in the snow.

That aside, I have to say that I liked the unit so much that I bought another for my other bicycle.
