Comments about All Terrain Herbal Armor Spray Insect Repellent:

My friends brought this on a trip to Yosemite. I urged them to get something without DEET. Who needs DEET in places without malaria and such? DEET eats away plastics and contaminates water sources. You don't want to cover yourself in DEET first, go for a swim and then drink water you (or someone else upstream) just swam in, yuk!

This product works! It smells just you would expect from a natural bug repellent and isn't greasy at all. I wish the bottle came without the spray nozzle though, because it doesn't really spray (more like a squirt) and adds unnecessary weight.

I took this up in to Yosemite for 5 days, and couldn't have been more disappointed. I was the only one who wore this stinky nonsense, and I was the only one who came back with over 100 bites. I wish I had noticed that the other reviews mention it only works when there's no mosquitos around.

Comments about All Terrain Herbal Armor Spray Insect Repellent:

Wore this on our trip to the Amazon. I'm one of those people who is usually mosquito candy. Early in the trip, when we got back to the lodge after a long day in the jungle, I took off my shoes and socks and slipped on my flip flops, but forgot to reapply. After a couple of hours I had one bite - on my foot, where I did NOT apply the repellant. I was more diligent afterward and I managed to come back from the jungle without any more bites! The smell can be pretty strong - I don't mind it but I know a lot of people do. It's definitely oily, but it's not like they didn't warn you with the ingredient list.

Comments about All Terrain Herbal Armor Spray Insect Repellent:

This is absolutely my favorite insect repellent. Now to be fair, I am not one of those unlucky people who usually has swarms of mosquitos following them everywhere they go. However... Over a long trip through wetlands, bog, and then into the rainforest, I wasn't bitten. At all. I put this stuff on and sure I smelled like a Tiki torch, but the bugs didn't even land on me. There were clouds of skeeters around all of us in the evening, everyone was using their own kind of bug repellant.

The only people who didn't get chomped? Me and 32% DEET Co-Hiker. This product? DEET free. I like that. I love not getting bitten.

One other good thing about it is that when you spray it on, it's white and foamy. You have to rub it in, but it gives you a few seconds to see exactly where you've got it so you know you haven't missed anywhere. If you do miss a spot, however, the bugs don't seem to notice. They just don't get close enough to find it.

Also, I have somewhat sensitive skin on my face. Anything harsh makes me break out. This? No break-out. Love it.

Best bug repellent ever. Get it. Use it. No more scratching. YES!

People tell me I smell like a citronella candle when I use this stuff, but that's not a bad thing. It's pretty easy to apply. You do have to rub it in after you spray to cover more area. I've found it to be effective against mosquitos on day hikes and in the backyard. I wouldn't trust it in the back country for ticks, chiggers, swarms of mosquitos, etc. I just love this stuff for everyday use because I don't feel like a walking toxic cloud of DEET.

Comments about All Terrain Herbal Armor Spray Insect Repellent:

This product works great when there are just a few mosquitoes here and there, however, it is not enough when backpacking, camping, or fishing where there are tons of mosquitoes. It may be fine to use hiking while on the move under the cover of trees (it can increase sun burning in open sunlight) but once you're sitting still at a camp site at dawn or dusk, it won't be effective, not even close.

Personally, I'll be carrying this product as my first line of defense and only switch to a DEET product when the mosquitoes get thick. Just make sure you read up on DEET--how to use it, toxicology, effects as a solvent, and environmental impacts--prior to using it.

In short: do not rely on this product for situations in which there are a lot of mosquitoes. If there are few to moderate amounts of mosquitoes in the area--it's a great DEET free product.

Comments about All Terrain Herbal Armor Spray Insect Repellent:

This works satisfactorily, which is better than most other natural bug repellents I have tried.

I always try to use a natural repellent if possible, like for everyday hiking, camping, and gardening. I haven't used this product in any extremely buggy situations, but if I were traveling to one I would bring DEET as a backup.

One thing I like is that it's a spray lotion. Spraying means quick application, and lotion means it's easy to apply to faces and there's no cloud of bad-tasting mist.

The product smells great for being a bug reppellent...but it didn't work for my husband and I in Costa Rica. Actually, I think we got bitten even more after we used it in the rainforest. Im gonna try it around here (California) on my hiking trip.

Comments about All Terrain Herbal Armor Spray Insect Repellent:

When my outdoor-averse husband decided to take up hiking this summer, I was stunned and underprepared. I didn't have hiking gear anymore and had to buy everything new (go REI Outlet!). I hadn't used bug repellent in ages but remembered hating it. Sticky, smelly, ineffective. I checked all of the outdoor recreation stores and websites and it seemed like there was a good consensus that this one worked without the DEET. I was sold. Glad I was, too! After our first outing in the Pikes Peak area, my husband (who elected not to wear it), was eaten alive by bugs. I didn't have a single bite. The bottle now lives in his car. I can't say how well it works in seriously infested wetlands, but in the Colorado mountains, it's plenty good. Smells nice, too, and is minimally sticky.

This product does not work. I took it with me to Yosemite on a 4 day backpacking trip. I came home with 240 bites (exact count). What's worse, is the oils practically cooked my skin when I was in the sun, resulting in sunburn wherever the repellent was applied. I borrowed some DEET towards the end of the trip and the mosquitoes left me alone.
