The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Merrell Phaser Peak Hiking Boots - Men's:
Bought these boots primarily for fall/winter use. They performed great on a couple snowshoeing trips (day and overnight), as well as on some mixed condition backpacking (rock, mud, compacted snow). They broke in quickly and without blisters, and kept my feet warm but not hot. They have a good mix of comfort and support suitable for extended moderately strenuous trips. As for cons, the traction isn't really great for loose or icy snow, or on wet rock. I can't say they are totally waterproof, but if you stay out of ankle deep mud/water they're dry. I did manage to roll an ankle, so the support isn't completely rigid; I think you sacrifice a little rigidity for comfort. Overall I'm very happy with them, and for the price you could do a lot worse.

I got these with my 20% off coupon, and I can't be happier with them. I use them for work at my land surveying job and they are perfect for muddy wet days out in the field. They are also extremely comfortable and great for hiking.

BOught these boots as I was tired of sore feet and short-lived time of other boots I have had in the past. Have not put several miles on these hiking all over Idaho, Yellowstone, Grand Teton and beyond. No issues at all with these boots. Most comfortable my feet have ever been in a pair of hiking boots.

Comments about Merrell Phaser Peak Hiking Boots - Men's:
I've owned a number of Merrells, all fine shoes/boots, and the Phaser Peak is no exception. After a thorough fitting, walking, and steep downhill testing at my local REI store, I wore them around the house for a week assuring the proper fit. Since then, I have put about 50 miles on them from sidewalks to steep rocky trails. Just a little break-in period was needed to conform to my foot. I replaced the cushion with Superfeet Green for my high arch and replaced the slippery laces with the Sierra Replace-a-Lace which hold a knot tightly. I've not experienced any hot spots, blisters, rubbing or soreness. They seem to be the perfect boot for me, plus they look great!

Wore these a week after purchasing them with no break-in. First trip I did in them was the Trans-Zion route through all of Zion park (approximately 60 miles).
No blisters, no lack of warmth, no water seeping in.... no complaints at all.

Primarily I was looking to buy snow boots for the NYC streets, the sales person showed me these boots and I just loved them. Great for the snow and the slush in NYC. However, I have yet to try the rugget teraing in them. I love these boots! They feel very comfortable, they are light, keep my feet warm, and they look Greeat! I made a very wise investment.

Comments about Merrell Phaser Peak Hiking Boots - Men's:
I purchased these boots in Oct 2011. I was initially pretty satisfied with the boots. They were comfortable. The boots were worn for day hikes, overnight and multi-night backpacking trips from the Ozarks to the Rockies carrying up to 40#.
After the first overnight trip, I changes the laces as the factory laces loosen up very easily. I also replaced the thin merrel insole with a pair of Superfeet (green). Both of these changes made a huge difference.
Fast forward to March 2013. I recently completed an Ozark highland trail section hike. The soles are beginning to delaminate at the welt on the sides of the boot.
Merrell used to mean quality but I do not expect a boot sole to begin to seperate after 18 months and about 300 miles.
These boots do not hold up to prolonged use for backpacking

Comments about Merrell Phaser Peak Hiking Boots - Men's:
I bought these boots specifically for cold, snowy weather to wear in an Eastern European city. Combined with SmartWool socks, these boots proved better than any other footwear I have ever worn in cold weather before. The average daytime temperature was below 10F and not once did I feel as though my feet were not warm enough. The ice, snow and slush never entered the boot even though I was occasionally standing in near-knee high snow drifts. Traction was excellent though I did have to knock off excess snow buildup between the lugs when entering buildings or after extended periods of walking. They always felt comfortable without feeling too snug as what usually happens after walking all day. I would definitely recommend these boots!
The one con I can say is that when entering a home where removal is necessary at the front door, they aren't quick to come off or put back on. Otherwise, amazing boots!

Comments about Merrell Phaser Peak Hiking Boots - Men's:
When I first bought these I thought they were great, fairly comfortable but with terrible arch support. Merrell sent me some new insoles, at no charge, kudos to that, but they too had porr arch support so I went some aftermarket insoles. Wore them abotu week straight before my 4+ mile, 2500ft elevation gaine, hike to Horton Lake California. Hot spots on both feet were really bad and a horrible blister on the arch of my right foot ruined my trip. My feet were swollen, throbbing and VERY HOT! not a warm weather boot by any means. I bought them because of REI recommendations for heavy loads as I was pushing 50lbs in my pack and parts of the trail are in bad shape. In short I'm looking for new boots, it's not a knowck againse Merrell, they are just not boots that are good for my feet.

Comments about Merrell Phaser Peak Hiking Boots - Men's:
I have used Vasque Sundowners for the last 20 years but since they don't make them anymore I decided to go with a brand name hoping for quality. Although I was wearing rain gear & gaiters, I came back from a rainy half day hike with wet socks only after the 2nd time I hiked in these boots. I am so disappointed and will now have to search for another boot...
