Comments about Scarpa Charmoz GTX Mountaineering Boots - Men's:
I've only had these out a couple of times but the feel has been great. They are a tad on the roomy side, but lace up well. If you aren't used to uber stiff soles it will feel funny walking on hard packed trail.
These excel in snow, with kicking steps being a breeze. Longevity may be an issue with someone who uses these on every hike they do. I will use them for spring and summer mountaineering.

Comments about Scarpa Charmoz GTX Mountaineering Boots - Men's:
The Scarpa Chamoz are great for climbing mountains in snow/ice, but think walking mountains rather than sustained ice climbing. I used them on Mt. Shasta pretty much out of the box, and they performed well in the snow and ice. They felt light enough for hiking for the walk-in, but I got some hot spots on the walk out and wished I had brought some shoes to use once I was off the snow.
As others have pointed out, these are not hiking boots as the soles are too stiff, and neither are they ice climbing boots - they fall into the middle for those mountain climbs where you are in snow and ice but on a walking mountain.
They felt OK to put on, even when frozen, and warmed up quickly. During the climb I had cold toes on a few occasions, but they stayed dry.
All in all a good mountain boot.

Comments about Scarpa Charmoz GTX Mountaineering Boots - Men's:
I bought these 72 hours before a day-long Mt Whitney summit attempt in April. The first time I laced them up for real was at the base at 3:30AM and didn't have to take them off until 6PM when we returned. They kept my feet dry and warm throughout the trip with only some mild toe-mashing on the descent. They offered just enough flex that the long approach wasn't too difficult but I also had no complaints once I strapped crampons onto them. My feet stayed toasty although the temperatures weren't too extreme. They did keep my feet completely dry in both snow and runoff.

Comments about Scarpa Charmoz GTX Mountaineering Boots - Men's:
Disclaimer: This is my first pair of mountaineering boots.
This boot is a relatively cheap, very lightweight mountaineering boot. I find them to be great for light mountaineering, but nothing supertechnical like strict ice climbing. There is simply too much flex in the sole for technical crampons. I use BD Sabretooth hybrid crampons for these and they work pretty well, although there is some flex which is less than ideal.
I agree with other reviewers that the sole rubber is a bit slippery. I do think they opted for a harder compound that is more durable but less sticky. This isn't a huge problem, but something to be aware of.
My biggest gripe is with the fit. The insoles are terrible. I am used to replacing insoles in boots, but these were seriously awful. There was practically zero arch support and I felt like 80% of my weight/contact patch was on the outside edge of my foot. I really needed a higher volume insole with an arch to level this pressure. So I put in some blue Superfeet insoles and the problem was solved -- in fact, they are now super, super comfortable.
Also, I have skinny ankles, and the ankle/lower leg support isn't too great in these simply because it is too wide.
They aren't the warmest boots in the world, but I don't have too much to compare them to.
I gave 4/5 stars. For the price -- especially with a discount -- they are great.

Comments about Scarpa Charmoz GTX Mountaineering Boots - Men's:
Have done several climbs in the cascades and olympics with these guys and can report the following:
Good: These boots are great in snow, good with crampons up to moderately steep terrain. They are lightweight, and fairly warm for the weight, though it generally doesn't get that cold around here.
Bad: I get heel blisters when hiking in these unless I tape, but that's typical for stiff mountaineering boots. No problems when in snow, or moving more slowly on mixed terrain. I try to avoid hiking in them, and often bring a pair of light approach shoes on long trips. The soles are hella slippery on wet rock and logs, but after 20+ trips show little wear. The biggest annoyance is that the waterproofing seemed to wear off fairly quick, but any summer climb in the cascades can become a slush-fest to soak any boot.
If you stay mostly in snow, and it's not super slushy, you will probably love these boots.
All in all, not super happy with them, but will probably hang onto them until they wear out.

This boot is going right back to rei, I climbed for 11 miles in snow, rock, and sand. This boot made me almost cry on the way home, my feet got blisters and became inflamed. They felt good on my other short hikes but not on a 2 day hike up difficult terrain

Comments about Scarpa Charmoz GTX Mountaineering Boots - Men's:
Bottom line: Great boot! Take the time to fit your boot, ask for help, when fitting use the same sock or combo that you will use in this boot i.e. wool, liner, etc. This will take care of most issues. I broke this boot in with a 13 mile hike with elevation and 30lb pack and a couple shorter hikes as well. Used the boot to climb Mt Shasta twice. Had 25 degree nights with minimal comfort/cold issues. Boot keeps out the water which is great. Again, if you take the time and care to fit and try boots on the proper way, this one will work great for you.

Comments about Scarpa Charmoz GTX Mountaineering Boots - Men's:
I purchased these boots last spring in preparation for Mt Shasta. I broke them in on a 6 mile then a 12 mile hike, no blisters, no hot spots, great comfort. On the Shasta climb, boots worked flawless. Good balance between support, stiffness, and comfort. Wet feet not an issue, even when walking through shallow streams. I normally wear a size 12. With expedition wool socks and liners, I purchased 13's in these and the fit was perfect. Why not 5 stars? Only because my toes got a bit chilled after 14 hours on summit day...note it was zero degrees. Great boot.

Used for Rainier, Hood, and Adams this summer. Got the job done well, very comfortable, I could tell when the temp dropped below freezing, even with thick socks. Laces stay put. The only neg thing I could say is that the "Scarpa" name on the side of the boot wore off on my first push up to Camp Muir in July.

Comments about Scarpa Charmoz GTX Mountaineering Boots - Men's:
Boots seem great, but are too narrow in the toe box. Returned them after wearing at home for 1 hour, and didn't wear them outside of the house. Wish they made wider size, then I would recommend them.
