I've used this product once in some very testing conditions in North Georgia. The temperatures ranged from 20-35 degrees and alternated between rain, sleet, freezing rain, snow, and ice. I used a 3/4 inch thermarest with a 30 degree bag, and used a thin emergency blanket/tarp to cover my gear.
That being said now, I was extremely impressed by the bombproof design of the product. You are completely covered from exposure to the elements (rain, sleet, snow, etc). The only thing I was not protected from was the condensation from my own breath which can be completely avoided by unzipping the bivy periodically when conditions allow. I was cold, but this was due to conditions and lack of a proper cold weather sleeping bag.
I would recommend this product for anyone who want a 4 season, bombproof, ultra-lightweight sleeping solution and is willing to sacrifice some comfort for lower pack weight, and easy set-up. When using this product, I would recommend carrying an extra lightweight tarp/emergency blanket to use for added protection for both yourself and your gear. It's not necessary, but will come in handy when moving in and out of your bivy.
This is for those who are a little on the wild-side, but the benefits of falling asleep on the ground under the stars in my opinion is well worth whatever sacrifice there is when transition from the comfort of a tent.

I have used this for several years. It is a good product and lightweight. No need to worry about your profile in high winds. It is a nice 4 season shelter for the money. However, new technology has made ultra light 1-man tents weigh about the same, but for about $150 or so more than this. This has made me decide to go to one of those for ease of entry/exit as getting into the bivy is a chore.
If you're all zipped up due to cold/rain/high winds you will see condensation inside the bivy sack, but it isn't more than any other type of tent in similar situations. Other complaints about this issue I feel are either exaggerated or due to not being familiar with just what gore tex will and will not let through.
An improvement I would like to see would be a longer zipper on one side to make it easier to get into and out of. It is somewhat difficult to do so.

Major condensation issues if the temperature is above 50 degrees. I woke up with my MH 45 degree down bag soaked. I used this in colder temps and had very little condensation.
Bombproof material. IMO, you will need to stake this out to utilize the space provided, ESPECIALLY if you are going to tie the netting to a branch. If you dont, you will lose a lot of shoulder space. It works fine without tying it up though. Sometime I have a hard time finding the zipper. Its big enough for my 0 degree REI Radiant Down bag with little compression.
I think they should include two more stake out point on the the 2 long sides. there are only two at the bottom and two on the top, but none on the sides.
Also, if they could extend the zipper down on one side. Its extrememly hard to shove your bag in AND get in with everything going right (not having one or the other bunch up).
All in all, I am happy with it. In a jam, its a lightweight shelter, it keeps my sleeping bag clean and adds to the rating (some say 10 degrees, but i think that is a bit high, perhaps 5).
Personally, if you are trying to save weight, I would buy this instead of the Alpine because IMO, you have to tie the Alpine to a tree ANYWAY (even with the included pole for the face) because the pole is prone to fall down which defeats the purpose to begin with.

Used this product for part of a AT through hike. While warm light and small, it failed to keep me dry. The condensation issue was minor, and while you can sleep on snow pack with it okay, if you have precip coming down your gonna get hosed. I switched out to a quarter dome t1 for the rest of that hike and was glad I did.

As far as weight goes-I almost didn't believe the bivy was in the box lol

The Aurora Bivy Sack is advertised on the REI website as MADE IN THE USA. The visibly cheap looking imitation of the original Aurora Bivy's (Purchased 3) I just received in the mail are all Made in China. USA made products are a big selling point for me. Because these were purchased for work taking them back is not an option. I am very disappointed in the cheap construction of these Bivy's, compared to the one I have used reliably in freezing Alpine weather for several years.

I used this bivy during part of a long distance 3 season hike. It is quite light fast and simple, and the condensation issues were moderate. It performed well in protecting me from wet ground conditions, both ground, and snow. It also performed okay in light rain, but completely failed in a serious downpour. You need to have a tarp over this if you want to be able to count on it. One good T-storm near Bear Mtn NY, and I was soaked. That's why I have a tent now.
