The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Smith's 3-in-1 Sharpening System:
I've had my 3-in-1 for a few years now. To make a sharp knife razor sharp, it's perfect. The carbide blades will do an OK job of putting an edge on a very dull knife and the diamond stone works fine for smaller blades vs. longer ones. A basic rule of thumb is the stone should be as long as your longest blade.
The real genious of this system are the certamic rods. Smith's generally recommends the curved portion but you also have two flat surfaces; one with a groove for hooks and similar, and an edge surface which is claimed to work well for serrated edges.
For me, the best use is in putting a razor edge on a reasonably sharp knife using the ceramic rods. It works equally well on all my SAK knives as well as my Benchmade and Buck knives.
The short rods (4") are another caveat for the longer blade knives. Spyderco makes a rod sharpener called the Sharpmaker which is quite popular but close to three times the cost of this one. The main advantage of the Sharpmaker is that it uses 7" rods. The kit includes medium and fine rods and you can get coarse diamond and extra-fine ceramic but those will cost $30-35 a pair extra.
For hikers and campers the Smith's is a great unit and often available for less than REI's advertised price.

Comments about Smith's 3-in-1 Sharpening System:
Used this tonight on a Frost Mora knife. Excellent. And I'm no pro at sharpening, so it needed to be semi-idiot proof. I used the diamond plate briefly then the ceramic rods and after just several swipes on each side I was sliding thru bits of paper like buttah. Before sharpening, the knife was clearly getting hung up in the paper and tearing rather than slicing. I'll be using this for all my knives (except the largets ones, ie, machetes). Can't speak to durability yet, since I just used it for the first time, but I do like it's size and weight. Easy to slide into a drawer after using or even take with, on a car-camping trip, if you'll be doing alot of cutting.

Comments about Smith's 3-in-1 Sharpening System:
This sharpener is fast and versatile. It quickly puts a sharp edge on any knife that I've sharpened with it. I have a few folding knives for camping, and some high quality Global knives for cooking. It puts a sharp edge on all of them. The only drawback I can see in this product is that the body construction feels cheap. Perhaps that has something to do with the country of manufacture - unfortunately, China. Time will tell if it holds up. Surely Smith could make such an item for a comparable price in the U.S., and build a little more heft into it.

Everytime I need too sharpen my knife I use my Smith's 3-in-1 Sharpening System. Works with any kind of serrated edge or straight edge blade.
