Comments about Benchmade 530 Serrated Locking Knife:

This is probably the best everyday folder you'll ever want in your pocket. It is so slim and so light (less than two ounces) yet it still has a 3 1/2" blade that is very sharp.

Be advised though, out of the box this knife is difficult to open. The thumb studs (which are also ambidextrous, a plus) are small to reduce weight and slim the profile are very hard on your fingers. I oiled the knife and loosened the screw that the blade pivots on and it made a world of difference.

Once you do that this becomes a 4 star knife not a 5 star. I still think Benchmade has better studs in there parts drawer and the black paint on the pocket clip flakes off and the draw string carry bag is just silly. Also, with any knife you should NEVER USE IT AS A PRY TOOL, especially this one because it is fairly high carbon and has spear point that goes all the way back to the handle to save weight.

Comments about Benchmade 530 Serrated Locking Knife:

Great knife, quality action and blade, even ran over it and it ran fine. I use it as a concealed back-up weapon and it really does go away in your clothing. Also perfect knife for climbing and hiking, saves a ton of weight, for a knife. One annoying thing is that i never got it resharpened to its original perfection.

Comments about Benchmade 530 Serrated Locking Knife:

I bought this knife to replace a cheap one that had been dulled and chipped over the years. It is a fantastic little knife from a great brand, Benchmade. The 530 is so light and compact that you can slip it into your pocket and it almost disappears. It opens lightning fast and smooth, though you might need to break it in for a bit. I have since acquired 3 more Benchmade knives, but this one is still my go-to EDC.

Comments about Benchmade 530 Serrated Locking Knife:

I heard about Benchmade's reputation for making some of the best knives in the knife industry, so I thought I would give one of their most highly rated blades a try. I received the knife lightening fast (great job on shipping REI!) When I pulled the knife out of the box and felt it and opened it, I was slightly disappointed. The blade was great, came razor sharp and the serrations were very effective (tested them on some 550 paracord). The deployment was very fast and probably the smoothest I've seen in a folding pocket knife (thanks to that wicked smooth AXIS lock). It was extremely light, and pocket friendly too. SO WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT MAN! you might ask. Just one thing, the handle. I didn't dig the plasticy-poly-resin what ever it was at all. It felt very cheap, and it made an annoying rasping sound when I handled it. Some dudes probably don't care, but that's just me. The #1 biggest gripe I had about this knife was when I opened the blade, the blade would rub against the handle AND MAKE THAT [*] ANNOYING RASPING SOUND!. At first I thought it was the centering of the blade in the handle, so I went and opened it with my left hand (I'm right handed) AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. The handle really didn't fly with me at all after all that, so I've decided that it wasn't worth (what I thought was insanely huge amount) of money I payed for it, so I returned it. I'm going to stick with Spyderco knives (I wish REI had some of those in stock), I've carried them in the past and I've had very few problems with them.

Comments about Benchmade 530 Serrated Locking Knife:

I carry this knife with me always, in my suit and tie. in my tactical gear, and with shorts and a t-shirt.It is light with a very low profile, maintains an edge and Benchmade will sharpen it for free for life. [...].You can get custom engraving from Benchmade as well, I recommend doing so when you send it in for it's first sharpening. This is actually my second 530, the first one was be grudgingly offered up at the "Amnesty Bin" at Buckingham Palace, be forewarned, locking blades are not allowed in the UK.

Comments about Benchmade 530 Serrated Locking Knife:

The guy at my local REI told me this is the favorite knife of all the REI employees, and they are right. You will not find a lighter, sharper, better made folding knife anywhere. However, I prefer the model (not carried by REI, unfortunately) with a plain (unserrated) blade better.

Comments about Benchmade 530 Serrated Locking Knife:

I bought a Griptillian from REI a while back. I really like it. The downside to that knife is the size - for me it's too big and heavy to carry on a daily basis.

So, I bought the 530 to keep on me every day. I spent a day or so breaking it in by cycling the blade open and closed and lubricated it a bit.

It more than lived up to it's billing in the size/weight department. It just about disappears into your pocket. My problem is that shortly after I started carrying it, the blade began dragging on the case when I open and close it. I thought the pivot tension had relaxed a bit allowing the blade to flex. No such luck. Tightened it just a smidge and all it did was make the knife almost impossible to open. I tried several other things, none worked.

The knife works OK, the blade is insanely sharp, but, at this price point, the case should hold the blade securely enough to keep it from rubbing the case. My question is now - put up with it or return it? Given what it cost, I'll probably be sending it back.
