Comments about REI Travel Sack +55 Sleeping Bag:

This thing is perfect for 3 season backpacking and car camping, I love it, super comfortable semi rectangle design and I am 6'3. Contrary to other reviews I have camped in temps as low as 35 on a BA pad and stayed plenty toasty. Plus with a compression sack it can pack down super small and weighs hardly nothing, making it crazy not to throw in the pack and hit the trail. This thing is even my go to for lounging on the couch. For the size, weight, comfort and price this this is perfect!

Comments about REI Travel Sack +55 Sleeping Bag:

I needed a light bag for bike camping in Ireland in August. This bag packed with my tent into one pannier, and that was good, but the 55 degree rating is not right. The nights got down to at worst 55, and I had to wear all my clothes, my Gortex parka, socks, hat (brought just in case) and I still shivered through the windless night. I even slept in one house in a loft and I was near cold. So I think this bag is better for 65 degrees or so. It might be best for a weekend visit to sleep on friend's couch.

Comments about REI Travel Sack +55 Sleeping Bag:

This is a fine bag to take naps under at the house. Keeps the temps just right when unzipped as a comforter. We have a regular down comforter on the bed, and that mug is just too hot. Plus, der Travel Sack is wispy light. If you like you some naps, pony up the cash, friend!

And, I used this as an overbag rather than a bag liner for my down bag and it warmed me right up. One year at Telluride I thought I might should have gutted a tauntaun to stay warm; the next year, I brought the Travel Sack and slept all cushy-like. The cut is such that it made more sense to put my mummy bag inside of it, and the travel sack was light enough to keep the down loft from compressing. And, paying this price to extend the range of my more expensive down bag made economical sense to me.

It packs small, carries light, and is a great summer bag because you can unzip it entirely. I'm thinking I may buy a couple for my shorties to haul around in their daypacks so they can tote a load without keening like mosquitos when we go backpacking in the summer.

Comments about REI Travel Sack +55 Sleeping Bag:

The really good thing about this product is that it packs so small you even think you forgot it back at home, but the quality seems to be poor, I've only used once for 2 nights in a row, really good weather and inside a tent and it's starting to show some threads... But ok, I guess its good for the price, I would just like the guys at REI to come a bit more honest about it.

I've used this bag on a 4-night bicycle camping trip in the summer heat, and was happy with its performance. Not too hot, warm enough when needed. One can always wish for smaller and lighter, but this bag is "good enough" in those aspects. Recommended.

Comments about REI Travel Sack +55 Sleeping Bag:

This bag is great. Granted its only rated for 55+ but I have found uses for it's minimal warmth. Its perfect for hammock camping in warm to mild climates.

I have found this bag to be the best around for summer hammocking. I use a Hennessey A-Sym with the bottom entry and the bag lets me get in and out of the hammock by simply unzipping my feet and hopping out rather than trying to squeeze in/out my bag before/after getting in the hammock. When things cooled down a bit I used a lightweight bag liner to up the warmth a tad. I also plan on using the bag itself as a liner later this winter with my 20+ bag to so I wont have to pack my super bulky 0+.

i cannot live without this thing. i originally bought it for international travel, but i use it all the time, even for short trips, sleepovers, etc. it has come in handy when crashing at friend's house, places with less than desirable bedding, keeping warm on plane rides and train rides.. compact, light, and sometimes i use it as a pillow when in the compact form. this thing is a life saver... everybody is always saying.. "where did you get that?? why don't i have one???" i'm buying these for gifts this christmas!

Comments about REI Travel Sack +55 Sleeping Bag:

This would be ideal for warm summer nights. I used it one night in May, and it got windy and the temp dropped, probably down to mid fifties, and I froze my butt off. I like that it's super light, and VERY compact compared to other sleeping bags, but it's just not warm enough. Even on a warm night, it probably wouldn't be comfortable because there's no weight to it. It never felt like it was on top of me. More like it was floating just above my body. Rather awkward. I returned it for my money back, and a friend of mine gave me a better sleeping bag.

For those of you looking for a good summer bag but want it to be a mummy rather than a semi-rec for those long cool summer nights, this is your bag. If your shoulder span is more that forty inches you will find this bag somewhat cramped at the top, but if you're not a brawny person you're good. The zipper snags but put your finger on the front of it when using it and it's not bad. I'm glad I got the bag.

Comments about REI Travel Sack +55 Sleeping Bag:

The other reviews have pretty much said it all. This is my summer bag, doubles as an under-quilt in my hammock in cooler weather, and would work as a bag-liner if needed (though it would bunch a bit). A shorter version would be nice.

You really can wear this thing. On a recent bike tour, sudden downpour and unexpected low temps got me very chilled. Lacking enough layers, i 'wore' this bag, and it was awesome! See attached pic. The hood can still be used while wearing it, i just didn't use it because i was eating. You do need a belt or rope around your waist so you can hoist up the bag enough for walking -- otherwise you have to hold it off the ground like a bride's train.
