Comments about ExOfficio Air Strip Lite Long-Sleeve Shirt - Men's:
I've owned this shirt since 2003 and it's been with me on every hiking and backpacking trip. I bought it for lower desert sun and thorn protection and also for ventilation in the heat.
It's stood up to numerous thorns without damage.
After seeing how well mine has lasted during trips and even yard work, my friends have all bought one.

Be sure you like the color you buy, because these shirts almost never wear out. They are comfortable by themselves or as an over shirt. Great pockets and ventilation. Perfect for hiking, camping, canoeing, photography, and travel.

Comments about ExOfficio Air Strip Lite Long-Sleeve Shirt - Men's:
I bought two of these for a 2003 Asia trip, and I have used them for many warm weather trips since then. They are still in very good condition. They are a little warm for the tropics, but they provide great sunburn protection. I love the pocket space and the inner security pocket.
However, the velcro closure of the outer pocket flaps is flimsy, and on the first trip my notebook fell out several times. When I got home I took them to a tailor shop and had two button holes and buttons added to each pocket flap. This has solved the problem, and it was well worth paying the tailor to do that.

Good for hot and humid conditions. I have similar shirts by other manufacturers and this is certainly one of the better ones.

Comments about ExOfficio Air Strip Lite Long-Sleeve Shirt - Men's:
EXPERIENCE: 8 years of ASL use as a scout leader, baseball coach, and dad. I own 15.
TEMPERATURE: Hot Houston. High humidity with heat indexes 100+.
OTHER SHIRTS OWNED: Patagonia Cap, UA Heatgear & Flats Guide II, Easton skinz II (w/bamboo), Magellan Laguna Madre, Columbia Perfect Cast, various cotton & linen.
BEST PERFORMS: In sun or shade with movement and/or wind. Higher humidity worsens performance.
WEAKEST ABILITY: In stagnant conditions with high humidity.
WEIGHT: Lighter than any other button-down outdoor shirt on the market.
DRY TIME: Unreal. Fully soaked after a dunking booth and I was dry again in 45 minutes.
IN FULL SUN: ASL performs best. My other shirts feel "on fire" with direct sun, especially UA. Being L/S with a collar, you can still be reasonably comfortable even with sleeves rolled down during extended time in full sun.
IN HUMIDITY: All the shirts have challenges here. With some air movement, ASL performs as good as can be expected but its tight weave versus the micro mesh on the stretch fabrics means Capilene I/Silkweight and my Easton Skinz II win here.
IN STAGNANT CONDITIONS: Because of the tight weave, body heat feels trapped despite the excellent venting. However, as soon as you move, or have some air flow, the heat is dissipated.
FIT: I'm 5'10" with a 45" chest and 40" waist. The large is too tight across the chest and causes the lateral edge of the pocket flaps to bend over. I wear 34/35 arms for dress shirts but the large ASL is little short on reach. The length is also short flashing my abs when reaching up. In contrast, the XL is a bit baggy and a little long. HOWEVER, this makes it perform BETTER and COOLER for outdoor activities. Additionally, when stretching up, the extra length conceals whatever I carry on my belt. In contrast to a proper dress shirt fit, notice the Ex Officio models wear it baggy (the top of the armholes are over the side and not the top of the shoulder and the rolled sleeves are below the elbow). For work or non-active travel you may want the smaller size.
LOOK & DESIGN: While a button-down looks more formal than a T, they are far more versatile. If your arms start sizzling, roll the sleeves down. The collar protects your neck. And when the heat is on, unbutton the shirt for maximum venting and still retain the sun protection for your back and shoulders. The fabric is softer than any other button-down Poly/Nylon shirt around, doesn't have a "plastic" feel and doesn't pill like my UA shirts. The shirt is generally wrinke-free, but the pocket corners need to be pressed periodically. Unfortunately, the pockets are a little low and sag with contents. Color selection is subdued to promote use at home, office, or travel, but I wish they would offer more "bold" colors for fishing/beach activities in the bright pastels or tropical hues. The ASL color durability seems a little weak and is easily bleached/stained. I also think the sleeve tabs are too low as I would prefer them to roll up above and not below the elbow.
SMELL: I don't find they retain smells, but the tight weave holds an individual's own scents worse than a mesh type shirt.
OVERALL COMMENTS: I'm addicted to these shirts. I washed it each night and wore it daily at Disney and Sea World during the hottest summers and remained reasonably comfortable. Not perfect, but HIGHLY recommended if you can find a sale.

Comments about ExOfficio Air Strip Lite Long-Sleeve Shirt - Men's:
The one big drawback of this shirt for me is that the fabric pills very easily. I wore it for only one 2 day trip with a 30 pound backpack, and the shoulders and hip area where the backpack straps were in contact look like they have been rubbed down with rough sandpaper. Never mind the aesthetic drawback, I'm not sure how long it would last before it completely wore through. Surprising given that it is recommended for backpacking! REI's own Sahara shirt doesn't seem to have this problem. Other than that I love the feel of the fabric, but if it isn't going to last then its not worth the money for me.

Comments about ExOfficio Air Strip Lite Long-Sleeve Shirt - Men's:
Great shirt. Chest pockets are a bit too bellowy for it to be fashionable, but this shirt is great for transitions between cool and hot. As we hiked Olympic National Park and Crater Lake, the mornings started out cold (23 degrees F) with a fleece jacket over this shirt over a performance tee over a base layer. As the day warmed up (headed to 86 degrees), shed the fleece, rolled the cuffs, and finally shed the shirt. Perfect! My wife says this shirt looks better than I think it does, but she is often kind. The oyster gray goes with anything. This shirt washes really easily in the sink at night and dries by morning for another day on the trail. And it is really comfortable and fits well. It is roomy with no pull in the shoulders or back. It will become my go-to transition shirt for fall and spring, regardless of whether I am on the trail or not.

Comments about ExOfficio Air Strip Lite Long-Sleeve Shirt - Men's:
This is the most amazing shirt for all the following reasons, If youre debating...GET ONE!!! It can keep you both cool and warm like no other shirt and is very breathable..perfect for flying with the plane temps and walking fast and far with luggage and being hot and crammed. Surprisingly good for backpacking too. I used for a long drive and then while hiking the Lost Coast in CA for sun protection and it kept me from getting burnt and from roasting in the sun while driving and hiking. It felt cool on my skin, wicked great and dried fast. As the sun went down it blocked wind and kept me warm. It takes the place of several shirts in my pack over a broad temp range between sleeves up or down with button to hold the sleeves and different number of chest buttons open and collar up or down. It fits easily in mesh pack pocket and stays clean even when on the ground. The shirt looks great too, Im not one for collared shirts but for once didnt feel like a bum wearing hiking clothes to a good meal after we left the trailhead. The big pockets and zip pocket are handy, bigger than needed and could be a little smaller for looks and function, but its nice to know theyre there to organize while traveling if need be. It seems like they renamed the Halo since I recently got the halo (before bug stuff on halo) and now i have an air strip and they are exactly the same if Im correct, only now $20 more. Its a steep price at [$]!! but well worth it. If I was traveling or backpacking Europe I would take a few of these shirts. They stay clean even on a trail, spills run off and they dry fast. Great shirt from one of my favorite companies that makes great underwear and other gear too. I dont work for them but wish I did for a discount.

Comments about ExOfficio Air Strip Lite Long-Sleeve Shirt - Men's:
I had to special order the large tall size being 6'3" 175 lbs with a long torso and long arms. It fit me perfectly. I usually have to deal with shirts either showing off my belly button or feeling like a circus tent, but this shirt feels tailor made. I am currently in Iraq where the temperature is above 100 every day and it performs wonderfully. It is light, very comfortable, extremely breathable and does not retain odors. The only complaint i have it that it is only available in 2 colors in the tall sizes, and that is not really much of a complaint.
