I bought this watch because I just wanted something fairly simple and that would go well with varied clothing ensembles. The functionality has been great but the bezel has shown a lot of wear in just a year and just last week my strap literally fell apart. Like everyone else who has had a problem with this watch strap, there aren't options for replacement. Fortunately, REI has a replacement policy.

I suggest Timex provide a solid durable strap for this watch and we'd all be happy.

I wanted a watch with a compass. The terrain in W. Washington is confusing with mountains in every direction and often overcast skies. Moss can grow on EVERY side of a tree. Timex makes several models with compasses but they are difficult to find and I was delighted REI carried one in the Issaquah location. I've used it on day hikes, a fishing trip, and one night for star watching. It isn't a fashion piece, which suited me fine. Seems well made and reasonably sturdy. I have not used this with maps but believe it could be useful for that more demanding type of navigating.

I bought this watch from REI because I know I can trust their products and return policies.
I purchased the item a week ago and afterwords (silly move) looked up other watches offered online from REI. I found some I considered if this watch didn't work out but after this weekend I believe I will stick with this.
This weekend this watch went through two thunderstorms, a tornado warning, swamps, laying in the dirt and night land navigation.
I can't afford for a watch to fail on me in the field and this one kept time accurately and offered a compass +/- 4 degrees, which is easier than pulling out a compass to check your azimuth.

Pro:
The watch has hard to push buttons which works great because I don't accidently cancel my timer.

Cons:
The band shows visible wear quickly, and it appears it may be coming apart from the plastic base holding it to the body of the watch.
The face does scratch, however, there is no problem reading it, it's just slightly annoying.

Overall, outstanding watch, I would use it if you want something to take in the (clean) woods. The dirty woods I won't really know until a few weeks from now.

A great watch for [$]. I just bought it so I won't review it's durability but for being very cheap (compared to Casio, Garmin,and Suunto), I don't care about that as much.The compass is very accurate and matches the degrees of my Garmin GPS perfectly. I really like the built in bubble level that ensures a your watch is flat and gets a good reading. The other functions are great and the alarm is not a monotonous sound (actually has a little rhythm) which makes it more effective in waking me up. The only drawback is that the indiglo could be a little brighter (hence the four star review) but is sufficient. In all, having all these features and being 100m water resistant, I am very satisfied for the low price.

The only thing I don't like about this watch is the band, which only lasts a couple of years. I've had two, the second a free replacement from REI under warranty. Both bands rotted within a couple of years, and looked ratty in half that time. I wear this watch every day, the only moisture it sees is perspiration, and since I'm and old fart and don't exercise much, it leads a pretty sheltered life.

I would recommend an equivalent watch ONLY if it had a decent wrist band, or one that is user-replaceable with a standard wrist band.

The watch itself is great -- good features (and lots of them). I use it for both running and work. But the band wore out in less than a year. And REI does not carry the band, and it must be special ordered from Timex. REI was helpful, but.... it's a pain.

Watch works perfect, multiple alarms are excellent, compass function works okay but I wouldn't depend on it. The downside is the band, it wears (but still functions) and worse absorbs sweat and has a smell that soap and water will not wash off.

This watch should soon be extinct. The strap absorbed sweat from my wrist and it retained the odor. Smelled like an armpit after only a couple uses. The band fell apart quickly and there are no good options to replace it.
