Comments about Katadyn Hiker PRO Element:

Use this with Hiker2 Pro. I was in NM CDT and very dry. Needed H2O and a cattle tank was available but very dirty/algae/cattle poop. Used the filter plus a hanky. I look/smell the result and it seem fine...use the H2O for bottle and Camelback. It did get very hard to pump but expected that. Did also put iodine pill in the H2O...just in case.

Comments about Katadyn Hiker PRO Element:

A warning from manufacture states, not designed to clean dirty water! Filling one waterbottle full was all she wrote on the Escalante River. Manufacture suggests to use a hankerchief around inlet filter, to further filter the talcum-powder silt. Even letting the water "sit" for a couple of hours before filtering is better, but not great. Great filter though, just be careful and wise with silty water.

Comments about Katadyn Hiker PRO Element:

I purchased this filter element to replace my old one. While I haven't used the new one yet, the old one worked great and I expect nothing less from this one. My beef is with REI listing this as "Made in the USA" when the package clearly states "Swiss Made". Great item, falsely advertised.
