Comments about Granite Gear Quetico Canoe Portage Pack - Regular:
I use this pack on solo paddling trips. Its holds all of my gear for 10+ day trips. It dries out quickly and doesn't get super heavy when soaked like my Duluth pack. This bag is huge, so no worries about running out of space. If you can't fit it in this bag, you have too much gear. I've tested it with as much as 80lbs and hoisted it up on one shoulder strap with no problems with the stitching or straps. I've used for a over a year now on two trips, so far so good.

Comments about Granite Gear Quetico Canoe Portage Pack - Regular:
After 40 years of traveling in the BWCA I have tired of trying to find a tree big enough with branches low enough for my food pack. My pitching arm isn't what it used to be so getting my food out of harm's way has become a problem. I decided to go with a Harmony 30L Bear Barrel. I looked at lots of different carriers and decided on the Quetico. I appreciate that it is sized nearly perfectly for the 30L but still has room around the edges for tarps, sandals, and other misc. as well as good places to lash equipment on the sides. It carries well because of the wide padded shoulder straps, the hip strap, and is cushioned well for my back. It didn't get a real hard workout as we didn't do more than a dozen portages on this trip but my other Granite Gear has stood the test of time and many portages. It hurt my heart to retire my old Duluth bag but it was time to enter the 21st century.

Comments about Granite Gear Quetico Canoe Portage Pack - Regular:
In a fit of re-outfitting I purchased a Nimbus Great Northern, and was impressed: with a pack that size, you don't need a tent--and if it had a stiffer bottom you wouldn't need a boat, either.
I was so blown away by it that when I looked for new bag for backpacking I took a chance on the Quetico. It seems more manageable than the NGN, and certainly is the most comfortable pack I've worn on the trail (40+ years). The cavernous NGN is great in a tandem, but I need to separate gear in a solo boat so once again the Q wins out. My wife now uses the NGN (bulkier but lighter stuff), while I paddle with the Q and the Food Pack.

Comments about Granite Gear Quetico Canoe Portage Pack - Regular:
Just got back from the Boundary Waters and this was a great pack at a decent price. There are others that carry more, but I found this coupled with a standard size backpack worked like gangbusters. Wasn't too big which kept from loading too much stuff into it.
Plenty of compression straps on the sides and top to keep everything compact. Sat neatly in the bottom of the canoe. The suspension system on this is fantastic as well. Made for a very comfortable hike through portages.
First, put on the regular backpack on backwards then toss this badboy on your back and it secures everything tightly. If you're looking to get good portage pack at a good price, can't go wrong with this. Even through it's not made in the USA anymore and some people complain about the decline in quality, worked great for me. Then again, it was only 1 trip so we'll see how she holds up after a few more times out.

Comments about Granite Gear Quetico Canoe Portage Pack - Regular:
I have been camping the BWCAW since I was 19, and I finally got my hands on the perfect pack. I took this with me to the Quetico last summer, and it performed perfectly. It has a ton of capacity, plus all of the great assets of hiking packs - lots of extra compartments (like water bottle pockets and map viewer clips), plenty of ways to tighten and center the load, and a fantastic harness and support system. It also sits nice and low in the canoe and is easy to pull in and out of it with all of the straps. I can't say enough about it!
