Comments about Outdoor Research Verglas Gaiters:

I do really enjoy this product. It would be very helpful, though, if REI were to show measurements to help figure out circumference when closed. I had read reveiws about the gaitors not fitting around larger calves and I have larger feet (size 9.5-10.5) and was worried the middle size wouldn't fit. Now I wish i would have gone with the middle size and the large size is the tiniest bit too big...but maybe the next smaller size would be a little bit too small...
AND the top of the gaiter would probably stay in place better if there was a little bit of elastic...maybe with a toggle to help keep the elastic taught.
Other than that I enjoy wearing them while walking to work or the store OR riding bike to work or while errand-running.
There are quite a few products that could use specific measurements to help someone who really isn't THAT close to an REI figure out whether or not something may fit...
I am excited to see how they handle snow-shoeing (if we ever get more snowfall)...

Comments about Outdoor Research Verglas Gaiters:

These are decent gaiters, with a few issues. First, the good: These gaiters are lightweight, fit well, and completely waterproof. I have forded streams with these without getting wet at all. I've had my current pair for about three years, and they have served me well in all sorts of conditions.

Now, for the issues. First, they are not very breathable at all. I realize that's an issue with most so-called "breathable" laminates, but with these gaiters I always end up with soaked lower limbs -- even in dry weather. It's not a fatal defect, but I did expect a little more from gaiters specifically advertised as "breathable."

Second, the construction is not quite as durable as I would like. Although my current pair is still going strong, it's also showing some pretty major signs of wear. In particular, the lower part of the gaiter started showing signs of abrasion the very first time I wore them snowshoeing. Again, it's not a fatal defect, but I would have liked to see a tougher fabric on that part of the gaiter (since that's precisely the area that's most exposed to brambles, rocks, and abrading surfaces of every kind).

Comments about Outdoor Research Verglas Gaiters:

A: The 3-layer Ventia material delaminated. This is probably not OR's fault, but their supplier apparently provided them with an inferior fabric.
B: The stitching between the Cordura and Ventia has pulled out, causing a wide split along the front seam of my gaiter. Poor craftsmanship is to blame here.
Too bad, because otherwise I've been a fan of OR's products.

Comments about Outdoor Research Verglas Gaiters:

These are a great gaiter that I have used several times per week for nearly 2 years. Only recently have they developed a couple of small rips in the nylon and the lace hooks have bent. The fastening device at the top of the sleeve can be somewhat finicky and hard to adjust with gloves on.

These gaiters keep water, rocks, and snow out of your boots without overheating. I avoided a goretex gaiter, not wanting the extra laminate layer. As a result they aren't 100% waterproof (obviously), but still go a good job at keeping the boots dry if you slip during a stream crossing or during a downpour.

I've uses these primarily to keep rocks, rain and poison oak from getting under my pant legs and they have served that purpose well. If you're looking for an all-purpose all-weather. These are highly recommended.

Comments about Outdoor Research Verglas Gaiters:

I have used these gaiters for the most part in Australia. During summer wearing long pants is not an option but wearing just boots and socks will not get you far because of spear grasses and other things that will just get into your boots or socks and then eventually force you to stop to pick them out.

These not only effectively stop anything getting into your boots, but protects the lower leg from getting beat up by low brush like lantana. I don't go bushwalking without them anymore regardless of the season.
They also provide a really snug fit around the boot which is critical in aiding the waterproofness. My foot slipped of a rock and into a creek a little under a foot deep. Without the gaiters I would have had soggy walk and probable blisters by the end of the day. But with them the water barely had the chance to get to the top of my socks from the gap between the gaiter and the boot. Dry feet! Yesss!
And because they are heavy where they need to be (around the ankles and right up the middle to the top) and lighter around the rest, you won't sweat as much. The top strap works well and effectively and has never accidentally come undone. It is needed however since it won't stand up fully by itself due to the light weight material.
Bottom line is that these gaiters work perfectly, feel great, are unobtrusive and represent great value.
