Comments about Yakima Outdoorsman 300 Towers - Pair:
this product is great for what it is; a very universal sturdy truck rack. this product is very easy to install and should work great on just about any truck. it may not fit perfectly on everything but it is a universal rack so i dont see how anyone could complain. its said to be able to hold 300 pounds and i believe it. very stable with the 150 pounds or so i routinely put on it. the only thing i would change is better padding between the rack and the top of the bedrails.

Comments about Yakima Outdoorsman 300 Towers - Pair:
I've been using Thule and Yakima products for well over 25 or 30 years. About 15 years ago, I switched everything over to Yakima (from Thule). At that time, I believe, their products were made in the USA. Some time during the past decade or so, they moved their manufacturing to places like Mexico, and the quality has never been the same. So, this product is sufficient and useful in many ways, but the fit and finish just aren't that great. Here are a number of examples: (1) The screws that secure the crossbar to the top of the support were not easily tightened; the internal nut seemed to skip or twist as they were tightened, and the general quality of the screws is poor; they deformed a little, and I doubt that they could be re-installed more than a few times without stripping completely. (2) The protective plastic "padding" under the supports isn't precisely the same size as the part of the bracket to which they are supposed to adhere; this looks a little sloppy when installed. (3) The adhesive intended to attach the protective plastic to the base of the vertical supports is not sufficient; the plastic pads will probably simply fall off if the brackets are removed from the truck. (4) The "J" anchor set-up is just, well, cheap; it seems sufficient, but it's just cheesy. The bolt is too long (for my full-sized Chev pickup), so that at least 1"-1.5" of threads are exposed. This doesn't look very "clean" and it could be a minor safety issue. (5) The alignment of the "J" anchor and the bracket tube is poor and of variable quality. On some of the brackets, the washer doesn't sit flat or flush on the bracket due to poor quality welding and/or improper alignment during construction. Having said all this, I think that this product will serve its intended purpose reasonably well, but don't expect to be impressed. I would recommend this product to anyone who can live with the less-than-stellar quality.
