Comments about Black Diamond Alpine Bod Climbing Harness:

this harness is Geat for using as a safety device for mountaineering! but if you get the urge to drop off the side of a cliff or into a crevase for the fun of it, you will find it gets very very uncomfortable. i will be looking for something with a little cushin next time.

Comments about Black Diamond Alpine Bod Climbing Harness:

I've been using this harness since October of 2010 (second hand from the boyfriend after he used it for about 6 months with no major falls), and this thing is STURDY. It's been outdoors, indoors, on lead, on top rope, over Tyrolean traverses..

If you want a basic harness with no frills and no belay loop, this one is pretty solid. I keep my biner and ATC on the loops when I'm hanging out, or even un-clip the leg loops if I'm feeling really confined. My boyfriend wants it back for trad climbing because the belay loop in his current harness gets in the way when he's setting the anchor points.

My only real gripe, and the real reason I got another harness, is the comfort level. I'm not sure if it's because of the way my hips and thighs are proportioned, but resting on the wall and when the climber is resting while you're lead belaying... it digs really uncomfortably.

All in all, great basic harness for more gear heavy and technical climbs like trad. If you're new and looking for something just to use indoors, I recommend shelling out the extra 20 bucks and get something padded.

Comments about Black Diamond Alpine Bod Climbing Harness:

This is a good harness for mountaineering, especially for glacier travel & non-technical climbs. However, this harness has no padding, so it is mostly confined to those uses. If you want a harness for gym or technical climbing, get something else.

Comments about Black Diamond Alpine Bod Climbing Harness:

I bought one of these for my first climbing harness because it was cheap and simple. This is a good harness if you're concerned with weight and packability above all else- but if you want any semblance of comfort, look elsewhere. I stopped using this harness in favor of tying a 1" webbing Swiss Seat out of concern for my reproductive system.

Comments about Black Diamond Alpine Bod Climbing Harness:

Well I'll start out by saying I have the old deluxe version with the fleece waistband liner and it's downright cozy! I've worn this thing on Rainier, sport climbing, and gym climbing. I took a 10+ foot lead fall last week on it, and was glad to be wearing a beefy old school harness! the wide nylon straps distribute the weight better than you might think. I've never climbed in a proper sport harness so maybe I just don't know what I've been missing but hanging in this harness has never been a deterrent to "occasionally" stopping every bolt for a hanging rest! Only bad thing about this harness... it looks goofy at the gym with big straps and no belay loop... be ready to get made fun of. But my buddies always seem to appreciate my harness when I'm catching their big whippers!

Comments about Black Diamond Alpine Bod Climbing Harness:

This is a great harness, some of the complaints must be based on improper use, you need to wear it snug just like other harnesses, I've taken long falls and climbed for full days in this harness and been perfectly comfortable. One of the keys to this though is to make sure the leg loops are snug, it matters more on this harness than on others in terms of getting a comfortable fit, overall a great buy at a great price.

Also about the belay loop: the segment between the leg loops and the waist belt act as your belay loop, it is slightly more of a hassle to setup belay devices than on a harness with a vertical fixed belay loop, but this allows it to be much easier to put on and take off especially over boots/crampons than other harnesses.

I am considering the Black Diamond Colouir harness soon, as it is even lighter and packs smaller.

its simple and easy to put on and realy comfortable to hike in. if you cut off the gear loops it sits under a pack hip belt with no hard spots:)
but if your going to sit in this harness for any extended period you are not going to like it! long raps of lots of top rope belying this is not the one for you.
