        Comments about CamelBak Filter Adapter:

I bought this so that i can disconnect the mouthpiece from my hydration bladder tube and hook up my water filter outlet. That way i can fill my bladder without removing it from my bag.

BUT...another cool use (b/c the connector has an on/off valve) is that at camp you can remove your bladder from your bag, hang it from a tree, and use it as a shower bag by operating the on/off valve. Be sure to allow a way for air to enter your bladder from the top (if possible on your model) so that the water can drain out when the valve is open.

...the actual item is dark/opaque blue, not clear blue plastic as in the picture. doesn't matter, just mentioning. I'm happy with the purchase and i think it's a great price considering the robust quality and the built in valve.

        Comments about CamelBak Filter Adapter:

I just purchased this adapter from the local REI here in Olympia, WA and when I got home, to my surprise ... it wasn't compatible with the MSR MiniWorks EX. Then again, how can I be surprised as MSR has begun to pose a viable sense of competition with their own brand of bladders / hydration systems.

The reality of this 'con' is that MSR or CamelBak now find themselves in a 'stand-off' situation as to which company will budge and make an adaptive piece for the bottom of the MSR filter or the top of a wide-mouth Nalgene bottle. lol

I probably won't be purchasing another water filtration system seeing as how expensive they are, but am also not regretting spending the $7.00 on the Hydrolink adapter as it makes for great versatility with the quick-links between hose and bladder, & bite valve and hose.

If you intend to buy this adapter and are using a MSR MiniWorks filtration system ...

        This adapter is NOT COMPATIBLE.

          Comments about CamelBak Filter Adapter:

I just returned from a backpacking trip which was my first real test of this device; it was great. This allowed me to hook by Katadyn Hiker Pro filter up to the bladder without even taking my pack off (I kept the filter in the side pocket where I could reach it).As others have stated my only complaint is that it eliminates my right angle adapter, and therefore makes the hose just a little too short. The simple solution to this is to install it in-line about 3-4 inches from the mouthpiece, but you will need another barbed adapter to do this. An alternative to this device is the Quick Link Conversion kit (http://www.rei.com/product/812023/camelbak-quick-link-conversion-kit) which allows you to install it inline with an auto-shuttoff, but still needs another barbed adapter to put on your pump.

            Comments about CamelBak Filter Adapter:

I bought this a few years ago and use it all the time. So much simpler to pump fresh water right back into my pack without unpacking the reservoir.

Has worked fine for years and is so simple, I'm sure it'll be fine for many years to come.

The only things to keep in mind are that it requires your pack to be close to the water source (depends on the length of the tube...I bought a long piece of tubing from the hardware store that connects this device to the output of my water filter, gives me a little more room to work with).

Secondly, keep in mind you may be blindly filling up the reservoir! When is it really full? Hard to tell... One time I filled it so much, it sprung a leak and soaked my down sleeping bag! Since, I've learned to count at home first about how many pumps it takes to fill my bladder from empty...it's at least a guess. I see a camelbak gauge device I may consider as an add-on telling me exactly how much I've filled it with (granted it works that way). Otherwise, advice is to be careful and keep your bag in a waterproof sack! I learned the hard way...

Relieves the hassle of pumping into my Camelbak's main opening. Worked flawlessly with my water pump. Close to 3 liters pumped in less than a minute, directly into the bladder! Only con is that mouth piece isn't angled. No biggie.

            Essential for built-in water tanks

              Comments about CamelBak Filter Adapter:

My backpacking/hiking water gear is all fitted with these adapters. I've come up with a couple of homemade gadgets that help...

My Osprey Atmos pack has a tank suspension system that works extremely well, but is hard to reach for filling. This filter coupler solves the problem, as others have described.

But what about the initial filling at home? I got a cheap sink-shower attachment (intended for washing hair in the sink). It consists of a hose, handheld shower head, and a rubber cup that fits over the kitchen sink faucet.

I discarded the shower head and attached a Camelback filter coupler tip to the hose. Now I can fill the tank at the sink without also inadvertently filling my pack with spilled water, and without pumping 2-3L of city water through my filter.

Another problem is transferring water from my backpack into another tank, like for day hiking or cooking.

For that, I cut a small piece of hose and fitted it with two coupler tips. I can connect any 2 containers and move water from one to the other, without spilling a drop.

Got this product to adapt my Hiker water purifier. Product was perfect and just as described. Took off old bite valve and purifier adapters and replaced with this set up and I was done! Didn't have to take the reservoir from my backpack anymore! Just hooked directly into my drinking tube and filtered water directly into my reservoir. Highly recommended for anyone at any level looking to filter water into their camelbak without the hassle of taking the reservoir out every time.

It just awesome to filter water without having to take out the bladder! Just remember to turn the adapter valve ON prior to pumping, otherwise the pump will go crazy on you.

                    Comments about CamelBak Filter Adapter:

I used this on my last backpacking trip. It was great to just stop, disconnect the mouthpiece and connect a hose that connected directly to my filter. No unpacking the pack, no rerouting hoses. It has a rather large diameter and was tough to get through my backpack's hydration port. But another quick disconnect on the inside of the pack would eliminate the need to constantly reroute the outside hose and fitting. Biggest downside was that it was hard to tell when your hydration bladder was full, since it was still hidden in the pack.
