Comments about Columbia River Mt. Shasta Knife:

Lost it before I could get real use out of it. Never seemed exceptionally sharp, even when brand new. I have relatively large hands and it felt uncomfortably small. Also could not open it with one hand.

Comments about Columbia River Mt. Shasta Knife:

I bought this knife to replace a Buck Nobleman Ti CF Folding Knife that I had lost. I was excited to get the Columbia River knife, as by all accounts it should have been an upgrade (lighter, serrated, and with a double locking mechanism).

I could not have been more disappointed. To it's credit, the Columbia River knife is sharp and seems durable. But it is too small to be comfortable to hold - and I'm a relatively petite woman with small hands, so if you're a man I don't know how this could work. The knobs to open the knife don't protrude enough, and without being able to get my pinky finger around the handle for balance, I found I was unable to open it without either quite a bit of effort or without using my other hand.

I gave it a few months thinking that maybe I just needed to get used to it, but finally I gave up. I've just reordered the Buck and will be ditching this knife as soon as the new one arrives.

      • 2 fits in pocket

      Cons

      • Can't unlock from blade
      • Too heavy
      • Unlock bar hidden awk
      • Unlock requires stud

      Best Uses

      • Prob good 4 hunting
      • Too heavy for b-packing
      • Too heavy for home

Comments about Columbia River Mt. Shasta Knife:

Despite the quality construction and materials, the knife lacked innovation and functionality. Yes, the thumb stud worked ok for opening the blade, but not enough of the blade shows to allow simply pulling the blade open. In other words, you have to use the stud. To close, you have to insert your thumb nail into a small area and be very careful not to catch your nail.

Comments about Columbia River Mt. Shasta Knife:

I know the reviews for this knife are overwhelmingly positive, but my experience was just the opposite. I bought the knife and had it on exactly one camping trip when the screws holding it together fell out, and were gone.

Yes, if I caught this i could have tightened them but who would think to do that on a brand new knife. I lost 3 screws on one trip, including 2 that were opposite to each other causing the knife to basically fall apart.

Perhaps I just got a lemon but my experience put me off from buying another one.

Comments about Columbia River Mt. Shasta Knife:

I'll start by disagreeing with the poeple who stated that this knive is to small. It's supposed to be small!!! This is not a knive that you should use for tasks that last for more than a few minutes, this is for quick uses. I guess I'll compare it to a Leatherman which most if not all handymen own, they don't use it for a big job, but they do use it for a quick fix, a quick use, or to get out of a bind quickly. I use this knive as a letter opener at my office to opening boxes, to cutting fishing lines. I love it, it's functional, and tough!!!

While this knife is a bit on the small side, it is really well constructed and very sturdy. If it was 3/4" larger, it would be perfect.

This is an excellent knife with a great edge. The locking mechanism is really smooth. However if you have large hands, be sure to hold it in person to see if it fits with your hand.

Comments about Columbia River Mt. Shasta Knife:

PROS: this knife, while small, feels like you could run it over with a truck and it wouldn't know the difference. solid as a rock and all metal.

this is my second CRKT and both came out of the package as sharp as a scalpel. this company is serious about making knifes that will last a very long time.

very smooth locking mechanism - blade doesn't budge at all when locked.

CONS: if you have really, really big hands, you may want to get something a little bigger like the Rainer. i have pretty big hands and can only get my index, middle and ring finger around the handle.

this being said, as long as you're not hunting bigger game or trying to fight bigfoot, the size is not an issue. i prefer having a small, well constructed blade that doesn't feel like anything is there if it's in your pocket.

this knife is also heavy for it's size, but it is all metal - no plastic.
