        Comments about Spenco Flat Insoles:

If I were looking for an all-in-one insole, this wouldn't be it. I need more arch support than even the thickest Superfeet provides. HOWEVER, although the other-brand arch supports that I bought were very good at supporting my arches, they barely extended under the forefoot and provided very little cushioning there. Enter the Spencos -- they're thin enough to use over the other arch supports but do offer adequate cushioning all the way forward. I use this combination for hiking, both over trails and over urban concrete, and I find my feet don't get sore even after 10 miles.

By the way, although REI generically calls these "Flat Insoles", Spenco (in their catalog and on the package) calls them the "RX Comfort".

          Comments about Spenco Flat Insoles:

I have been using this insole for over four years and they have held up exceptionally well. My chiroprator recommended I get these to help with some aging issues, i.e. less padding on the sole of my foot. Along with some well placed supports, my metitarsals(sp)stopped becoming inflamed. I have run six marathons on them AND THEY STILL PROVIDE AMAZING SUPPORT. I would Highly recommend them to anyone seeking good, long-lasting cushion.

I have even transfered them to my dress shoes and they are great there too.

            Comments about Spenco Flat Insoles:

I have been hiking for 40 years, have tried a wide range of insoles - these are the only ones that have stood the test of time. Various arched insoles were eventually responsible for a nagging plantar fasciitis problem. Returning to these flat Spenco's solved it. Think about it: an arched insole is constantly stretching the fascia on the bottom of your sole - not desirable! Human feet walk best on a flat surface - and a little cushioning markedly reduces the deceleration stress that accompanies each step. Check 'em out - and cheap too !

              Comments about Spenco Flat Insoles:

Spenco has been selling these things for years. However they are no longer featured on the Spenco web site and they are getting hard to find. I don't know if they are going to be discontinued. Why discontinue? Because they probably aren't sexy. They don't promise extra support. They don't come in groovy colors. And they won't fetch the paper or make you a cup of coffee. But you should consider having a pair for uses such as... -- You can fit a pair of boots with heavy socks, but use this insole to fill in volume if you want to use lighter socks. -- I have a custom carbon-fiber orthotic. The front part is foam. But from the beginning of the arch to the heel is a rigid bed of carbon fiber. Pull out your normal sculpted shoe's insole and the back of the orthotic is hard stuff on hard stuff when wearing dress socks. Slide in a Spenco flat, and things are cushy. That Spenco insole has been going for over 5 years, and the [$] orthotic has long since worn out. -- I fitted a pair of motorcycle touring boots with medium socks, but included the Spenco flats. When colder weather comes, I can slip out the Spenco, and wear heavier wool.Do yourself a favor and get a pair. I just ordered 3 pair -- and was ready to buy a sheet of the uncut material if I had not found pre-cut insoles.
