The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Rated5out of5bybwebberfromBest you can buyI had to buy a filter to go to Isle Royale with as chemical purification is not reccommended. I wanted to make sure that I got quality when purifing, this did not disappoint. Easy to use, easy to clean in the field. Its all around a great product and brand.

Rated4out of5byPaul406fromSolid Piece of Equipment,This is a rock-solid filter. I've used the First Need for 20 years and have transitioned to this one. I found the one-way ball-bearing valve in the base would not work at first; the ball-bearing would stick to the set screw by water adhesion. I found the same screw at the hardware store, cut it down slightly, and the problem is solved. I would give five stars, but for this one modification that I made.

Rated5out of5byhikerlepagefromAmazing Filter! This is the best filter I have ever had the pleasure of drinking from! So easy to use and wonderfully heavy duty. As long as I live (or as long as they keep making the replacement filters), I will never purchase another filter again!

Rated5out of5byArendfromGreat FilterI love the Katadyn Pocket Water Filter. The filter was provided to me by the US military for use while working in Africa. It was an upgrade from the MSR Mini Works that I have been using off and on for the last 10 years. The Mini Works has served me well over the years, but I have been left boiling my water on two occasions; once due to a broken o-ring and once due to a broken handle (the Mini Works is plastic). The Katadyn Pocket Water Filter is very robust and it appears to engineered and built for years of use. I've been using this filter every day for nearly six months without issue. If you are looking for quality, long lasting performance, ease of use, and if you can get over the price, you will be happy with this filter.
My one complaint is the travel case/bag that the filter comes with. It's made of cheap material, both fabric and zipper. For the price I expected better.

Rated4out of5byChristopherFfromFirst trip of manyI used this filter for the first time on a two night trip in the Selkirk Mountains of Northern Idaho and it performed neary flawlessly. The only flaw I found was that when pumping it will leak if it is not absolutely screwed on tight. Easy enough to tighten it,but I feel that for the price it should not have to be cranked down so tight. I purposefully submerged it in some pretty murky water and had no trouble pumping 4 litres of clear H2O in 264 strokes. It does require some effort, but certainly less than other 0.2 um filters I've used previously. This unit was an investment for me. If it holds up like other reviews I've read, I should not have to buy another filter for many many many years. The price was a little discouraging for me, but I believe it will be well worth it.

Rated5out of5byTripIIIfromNice piece of kit. This filter fills both emergency back-up for home use and for trail. In SE North Carolina there are ample supplies of good water. I no longer need to carry water supplies while fishing, camping, or bicycle touring. This is an easy to use and simple to maintain system. The pump is smooth and easy and produces ample amounts of filtered water quickly. It is a bit heavier than other filters to pack, but still much lighter than carrying full water bottles. Expect that I will pass this piece of equipment down to the kids.

Rated1out of5byaugistinerfromhuge disappointmentI bought this filter to use while hiking the Kalalau Trail / Na Pali coast. The filter worked well on my trial runs at home, but tanked on the trail where it took me more than 90 minutes to filter 70oz of water for the hike back out.
This is the third different brand of filter I've used in ten years and a HUGE disappointment.

Rated5out of5byjtrollmannfromFewer Moving PartsI bought a Katadyn Pocket Filter 20 years ago. In fact, it is still in great shape and going strong. I recently purchased the newest model because of the improvements Katadyn made.
Yes, for hiking or backpacking, this filter is slightly heavier than all the other plastic pump filters out there, but here is what I love about this filter: it is made of quality solid materials, which means fewer moving parts; the ceramic element can be disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled in the backcountry in a matter of minutes; and it will filter down to 0.2 microns, clean up to 13,000 gallons, and comes with a 20 year manufacturers warranty.
