Comments about SmartWool Light Hiker Socks:

Was wearing the heavier hiker socks while deployed to Afghanistan. Ordered these for the upcoming summer. They are working great. I do wish they were maybe just an inch longer so that they are easier to wear with the longer military boots.

Comments about SmartWool Light Hiker Socks:

As a northern Michigan naturalist/guide, I have purchased and worn scores of pairs of Smartwool Light Hiker socks from REI. I wear just a single pair of these socks in my waders whenever I'm wading our icy rivers during our winter and spring steelhead fishing seasons, in my knee-high rubber boots walking 40-50 miles/week in our vast forests woodcock banding during our wet spring season, and in my pack boots while snowshoeing in our snowy, hilly forests during our lengthy winters. Regardless of the terrain and weather conditions, these socks keep my feet warm and dry. If your boots fit properly (and mine definitely do for I walk for a living), a pair these socks will very likely last you 1-2 years and well over 100 miles of usage before starting to thin. I own and use no other brand and style of sock than Smartwool Light Hikers--they're a great sock!

I have owned a number of Smartwool socks and they all shrink until I can no longer wear them. They also wear out quickly.

Comments about SmartWool Light Hiker Socks:

Bought these a few years ago for a trip to europe, along with a wigwam pair. After 1 month of walking, hiking and climbing I discovered that these were not what I expected.

Pros: They keep my feet cool, which was nice on those long hot hikes. They dry quick when washed and line dried.

Cons: They fit too lose for my comfort, they would not stay up to save my life so they constantly bunched. They are expensive.

I can't comment on whether or not they wear quick as I haven't worn them much since my trip because I can't get past constantly having to reach down to pull them back up my leg!

Comments about SmartWool Light Hiker Socks:

I have been using them for years, and have two concerns only: 1. they shrink with repeated normal wash, so buy a larger size; and 2. the design does not take into account those of us who are aging and losing muscle elasticity, thus, the built in "tightning" on the top compresses the ankel causing it to swollow. The manufacturer should consider losening the top to accomodate the eldery who have lost some muscle mass to allow for proper blood flow to/from the feet without upper restriction on the ankel.

Comments about SmartWool Light Hiker Socks:

Nice socks and very comfortable. Only complaints are that the elastic on the top is not very stretchable and the sock seems to wear out quickly. I had two pair that I rotate using but I only got 1 winter before they wore out at the heals.

Comments about SmartWool Light Hiker Socks:

Very comfortable, good at wicking and warming, and they hold up far better than the cheaper merino woolies I've tried. I still have some of the first SmartWool socks I bought 15 years ago. None of the "bargains" lasted half that long.

Best socks ever as far as comfort. Like everyone else on the reviews, they wear out quickly...for me, a few backpacking trips and casual daytime use. Love the feel though! Still trying to figure out the best socks for the money...

Comments about SmartWool Light Hiker Socks:

I use these while backpacking. I wear Solomon gore-tex trail running shoes when I'm hiking and these socks seem to work well to keep my feet comfortable. Not sure how durable they are, since I have only had them for a month or so and they have only been on a few hikes. But I did wear them in the snow and my low top shoes got snow in through the ankle area and the socks kept my feet warm even though they were wet.
