      Comments about Coghlan's Fire Paste:

The idea is pretty handy, but I like to see a little bit of a more potent concoction (say gasoline with styrofoam melted into it to form a gel). The thing is, the only time you're going to need this is when it's pretty wet, so ideally you want it to pack a punch.

      Comments about Coghlan's Fire Paste:

As far as a fire starter goes, you will be hard pressed to find something easier to use than this fire paste. It lights instantly when a flame is put to it, and burns long enough to light any tinder you put to it, and then to get your fire started.

It is not designed to catch wet wood on fire. It is not a fire starter log that weighs a pound or two and will burn for 30 minutes. It is simply a paste that makes starting a fire using proper fire building technique far easier.

The only downside I have found to the stuff is that the tube is so large. It is actually pretty lightweight, but the packaging is bulky.

        Comments about Coghlan's Fire Paste:

I have used this product on multiple occasions and it never fails. This stuff really is like legalized napalm. However, just because your using this product, doesn't mean that you have to forget the fundamentals of fire starting. Apply the basics, and you won't be disapointed with the speed your fire can be lit and maintained using this product. I have a tube with me on every trip. A+ rating.

              Comments about Coghlan's Fire Paste:

this stuff lights dry kindling very well - which isn't saying much. if your wood is wet, you're out of luck.

also, i bought a tube of this about 6 or 7 years ago and the tube split and got the good all over my backpack, sleeping bag, clothes - you get the picture.

if you're going to buy this stuff, make sure you keep it in a decent ziplock unless you want to smell like kerosene.

Just get it. It sounds silly, I know, but you'll be happy you do. It is the only store bought fire starter that can actually be started so you can start a fire. So stop staring at the picture and just buy it.

                Comments about Coghlan's Fire Paste:

I was the first in my group to reach the campsite and was assigned the duty of getting the fire going. As a new purchase, I quickly looked to my fire paste in my pack. While easy to apply to my kindling, the flame would burn out before the wood would catch. I must admit that the paste is highly flammable, but be prepared to go through almost half a tube if you are dealing with any wet or hard to catch woods. The other issue I experienced was having the half filled tube, (now distorted with squeezing) constantly poking into my skin in my pocket. I'd say each place I put the paste burned about 1 or 1 1/2 minutes.
