Comments about MSR SweetWater Water Filter:
The Sweetwater is a great pump The prefilter is a good investment to extending the life of the cartridge. This filter is easy to clean in the field.

Given to me by my wife many years ago because of her concern for where I go, and what I do in the wild. This pump has proved more than adequite, and has saved my bacon many times over. I've read all the reviews complaining about size, weight, and performance, The truth is...when you need clean water, no matter what...this is the gear you want.Take care of your gear and it will take care of you.

Comments about MSR SweetWater Water Filter:
This filter was a gift from my wife many years ago because of her concern for where I go and what I do in the wild. This filter has worked flawlessly, over and over again, in some pretty tough circumstances. I have never been ill, or without safe drinkable water.Silt filter that comes with kit is more than adequit in some very scummy conditions, if you push it below surface a couple of inches.Clean and care for your gear and it will take care of you.GREAT PRODUCT!!

Comments about MSR SweetWater Water Filter:
I have had my Sweetwater for almost 10 years using it at least every other month. With a little cleaning has been absolutely reliable and durable. It is pretty quick to fill a Nalgene. Wrap the tubing and use the handle to clip securely.

I used this this filter on a hike up to Mount Hoffman in Yosemite. Came in very handy and was really easy to use. I appreciate that it is not too heavy to carry in my backpack.

Comments about MSR SweetWater Water Filter:
I had an old MSR water pump that lasted years... this one however got returned after 2 weeks.
The pump works fine... we certainly didn't get ill, but it often takes forever to start functioning.
Quite literally my friend and I would sit next to a stream and pump for 10 minutes without the pump ever priming and starting to pump water... then it would randomly kick in.
Cleaning the filter didn't change this, running vs. still water didn't make a difference, how far underwater it was, etc... the pump just doesn't want to work half of the time (although it eventually always did).
I would not recommend purchasing one.

Comments about MSR SweetWater Water Filter:
I bought this filter when it was still under the Guardian brand. I liked it initially, but it hasn't held up well under mild usage. After only a few seasons of use the unit began to spray water from the pump shaft in all directions, making it hard not to cross contaminate. I am NOT talking about the RELIEF VALVE, but the whole diameter of where the shaft intersects the top of the pump body. This occurs on both the up and down stroke.
The relief valve, when the pump was working properly, was another issue. In my opinion the only reason for it is to keep the pump stroke light. Well what good is that if you are spraying half of your water all over creation?! I want my water in the bottle, not on the ground, and not all over me!
The last few trips I've taken my Sweetwater as a backup but inevitably use my buddies Katydyn Pocket, which is a much more impressive design, although heavier. I typically will use my Sweetwater once per trip, and then out of frustration borrow the heavier, harder to pump filter knowing that I am getting clean water.
I'll never buy another.

Comments about MSR SweetWater Water Filter:
This was my first water filter and I couldn't be happier. It's very easy to use in the field and pumps water pretty quickly. I was hesitant about the extra weight over iodine or similar but after tasting the water... totally worth it!

Comments about MSR SweetWater Water Filter:
This is a great filter. I have had mine for some time and have found it to be reliable and very funcitonal. It is simple, fast, and reliable.
There was obvioulsly a lot of thought put into this filter. It is engineered in a way that makes it easy to use and maintain in the backcountry, where it will actually be used.
I have talked to multiple other MSR Sweetwater owners and we all agree that this is the best filter on the market today.

Comments about MSR SweetWater Water Filter:
The rubber stopper in the interior of the filter came loose after about a dozen uses. Impossible to fix without breaking the superglue-like seal.
Got this filter after a marmot destroyed my Pur or Katahdyn as its called now. Love MSR, but they must have been taking a nap when putting together this filter. Going back to the Pur Hiker.
