Comments about PowerBar Gel:
I used to carry only Power bar gels on my runs until they disappear from my local REI store and I replaced them with Gu. It took me a while to get used to Gu thicker texture since Power bar gels were easy to swallow and to use at colder temperatures. Recently I tried Power bar gels again after about 5 years and it was a shock. I had green apple and berry, both taste awful. Cappuccino is little bit better but still... I don't remember it taste so bad when I had them as my regular energy gel. It was nothing to dream about but tolerable. Now I just want to finish few I bought and keep away, at least until it improved. I do like their consistency as it is easier to eat while on the run comparing to Gu gel. Gu Roctane has it all but sadly is too expensive for everyday use.

Comments about PowerBar Gel:
Most of the reviews are all about the flavor. I'll address that aspect but first, I wanted talk about the response I get from the gel. When endurance training/competing, I try to use one every 30-45 minutes which really keeps my energy up. My best miles are the ones after refueling with PowerBar Gel. I get a great boost that allows me to carry on.
I've tried all of the flavors except for Chocolate, Raspberry Cream, and Vanilla. While some of the flavors are better then others, it's all a matter of personal preference so try them all and you'll be sure to find one or more flavors you'll like. For the value, these are my favorite Gels. The flavors are all very strong so if your not a fan of artificial green apple to begin with (for example), I would not recommend Green Apple for you.
Make sure to wash your gels before taking them on a workout. It's easier and less messy to just suck them down so washing them first will give you more piece of mind.

Comments about PowerBar Gel:
The package of powerbar gel was in my bear canister. When it was packed tightly, it opened and made a mess in the bear canister. I have used other energy gel and have not had this occur. I would not recommend for backpacking as sqashed energy gels could entice bears. Hopefully Power bar's company will fix this weakness so that backpackers can continue to use.

Comments about PowerBar Gel:
I bought the Vanilla gel when it was REI's flavor of the month...it was cheaper than the Clif Shot gels that I normally use. Big mistake. I don't know how the PowerBar people could market a "vanilla" flavor that tastes like cough medicine. I will stick with Clif and Gu products in the future and will not dare try another PowerBar flavor.

Comments about PowerBar Gel:
I am trying to get my Ironman nutrition dialed in, so I figured one possibility would be to get used to the products that will be on the course, minimizing how much I need to carry.
The gels have a very thin, more water consistency than I am used to, having consistently used Clif Shots for several years now. It took awhile to get used to, but the upside is that the gel goes down easily. It is also nice that the gels contain electrolytes so you get both nutrition and electrolytes in the same package.
The downside is that the electrolytes add a salty taste, which ruins some of the flavors for me. The chocolate, vanilla, and latte flavors all tasted horrible to me. However, the fruitier flavors seem to mask the salty taste pretty well. Green apple, Kona punch, and mixed berry all tasted just fine to me.

Comments about PowerBar Gel:
I tried GU, Hammergels, and some other brand. I've also tried the various cliff shot / block/ rocks.
When I run, I have to mouth-breathe. That being said, consistency is extremely important. The Power gels are the thinnest. Like honey. Hammergels are okay, but more like syrup. GU is like trying to eat peanut butter.
I usually don't carry water when I run, so not having my tongue and mouth working for 10 minutes to get a thick consistency gel down is important for maintaining a regular rhythm, pace, and zone. Power gels do this the best for me. I tried Mango and didn't really care for it, but I like the vanilla well enough that I just stick with it. It's the clearest in color too- which is great for keeping my invisalign trays from staining.
My biggest beef is that there is no way to "sip" it down without getting the packaging sticky, and then my hand, and then my iPhone (running apps), then my nice running clothes. It'd be great if there was a way to more easily tear the top open- but not have it come off in a separate piece from the main container so you don't have to spit it out onto the trail. If it stayed intact, you could dispose of the entire thing as a single unit.

Comments about PowerBar Gel:
Brought this with me on a hiking trip to Pine Mountain,GA. After hiking up and down the mountain terrain carrying 25 to 30 lbs of gear and my legs got so fatigued they my quads started to cramp. After a brief rest and 2 packs of Power gel my legs were fine. And we did a lot more hiking up steeper terrain later that night. Sports drinks didn't seem to have as big an impact as these did for the situation....and these are much lighter than bottles of sports drinks.

Comments about PowerBar Gel:
I use these on long hikes when I stop wanting to eat the food I have packed but know that I need something. They provide a fast boost that lasts for a while. I tend to use these more on winter hikes than other seasons probably related to the additional stress that clomping around in snowshoes all days puts on the body. My favorites are the "Plain Energy" ones. I have learned to "like" these. Most of the others are hard to stomach.

Comments about PowerBar Gel:
Gels are better than bars or chomps on a long run or bike ride. Would only eat these in sports since gels, as expected, can taste terrible. I slam one every hour and it gets me through. Important to chase it with water as directed. Try to find variety in your selection. The container seems a bit thin and can crack open while jiggling around in your pocket leaving a mess. Other gel containers are thicker and do not have this problem. Or can use a gel bottle.

Comments about PowerBar Gel:
This is my favorite gel! I have tried pretty much every gel out there, but the PowerBar Gel is by far my favorite. The main reason it's my favorite: the consistency. Other gels I feel like I have to choke down or drink a lot of water when taking, but this goes down nice and easy.
It all comes down to personal preference when it comes to flavor. I tend to like the fruity flavors (Green Apple is my fav). I know others can't stand some gels that are too sweet, but hey - you have to experiment and finds what suits you best.
My advice is to try a bunch of different flavors and take them during your long workouts before any competitive event to know what works and what doesn't. The last thing you want to do is have half a marathon left and be stuck with an icky taste in your mouth.
I enjoy long distance activities like road biking and running. Some type of supplement is necessary. I feel like the gels provide that boost I need to keep going hour after hour.
