The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Lasted all day in the sun and waters of the Cook Islands. One application is all that was needed!

I have used Aloe Gator for many years. I have occasionally switched to other brands to try to save a few bucks, but I keep coming back to Aloe Gator due to its many plusses:
I have never gotten burnt using the stuff (as another reader says, make sure to apply 15 minutes before going out in the sun and getting wet or sweaty). This product is one of the few that actually seems to last the actual 8 hours that it advertises.
Once it is on and has been absorbed, I don't smell it on my skin and I don't feel any sticky or greasy remnants on my skin.
The 3oz size is perfect. It is large enough that I can use it for multiple days of all day exercise, but it is small enough that it meets the TSA requirements for carry-on luggage, and it is also small enough to carry in a bike seatbag or the pocket of my favorite hiking garb.
Lastly, although it gives all day protection, it is easy to remove in the shower (the reason I gave up spray-on sunblacks and gel sunblocks is because they are so difficult to remove at the end of the day).
This is the only product I have found that has all of the above benefits.
---> WITH RESPECT TO THE PACKAGING. Once when I drove from SoCal to Utah, the altitude change caused the seam at the bottom to split. I held onto the Aloegator until I returned to San Diego, and REI gladly refunded me the money for that tube. In 10 years of using Aloe Gator, that is the only time I have ever had a seam rupture.

I have used this product for years and I love it! I ride my road bike in centuries (100 mile+ rides), hike Whitney and other peaks, and run and kayak as often as I can. I apply this each time I go out - and it lasts 8 hours. I give it as gifts, and now my friends don't leave home without it, too.

This is the BEST sunscreen I've ever used. I first bought it at a surf shop because another sunscreen failed me in the salt water. This sunscreen works in salt water and also during long mornings on the bike and during triathlons. I apply it once before working out or racing and never have a problem with burning or with horrible biker tan lines...even after swimming and after sweating a lot.[...] This stuff stays on, works, and is NOT greasy! The gel version is sticky though.

I haven't really been able to give this product much in the way of testing because of the faulty packaging mentioned in other reviews. I purchased two tubes on sale; one tube burst in the trunk of my car a week after I bought it (it was a cool October day, so I think it was the pressure of other things pushing on the package, not the heat), causing an insane mess. I didn't really give it much thought (this has never happened to me before with sunscreen), and put the other tube in my pack for a three day trip in the Emigrant Wilderness. Again, the tube burst open at the rear seam in the hood of my pack. I really wished I had bagged this separately, because the mess it caused was pretty extreme (I'm still dealing with it months later).
I would, under no circumstances, buy this again. A complete waste of money, no matter how inexpensive, and the mess it causes is only more cost prohibitive. If you find yourself unavoidably drawn to the product (the application seems nice and smooth, non-greasy, worked effectively), I would either only use it for at-home, or immediately squeeze the contents into a second container for travel.

This is a great product. I am in the sun for hours. But of my latest order of four, three ounce tubes, three of the tubes opened at the seam on the first use. Another reviewer has had this experience as well. Aloe Gator, keep making great stuff like this, but please improve the packaging.

When you're stuck in the sun all day this stuff comes through for me every time I use it.
The first time was in Jamaica - you know, out on the beach, you get too hot, you go out in the water, cool off, then go back on the beach, dry off, get hot, and repeat the rest of the day (somebody had to do it). I did not reapply Aloe Gater at all during those eight hours in the sun. The next day I went snorkeling, I was feeling a little worried because past experience with sunscreens was they wash off after a while in the water, but being I first purchased Aloe Gator in a scuba shop (sorry, REI), I figured the scuba shop owners wouldn't have this product around if it didn't work, plus, they recommended it highly - they were RIGHT - I didn't burn while snorkeling for two hours.
At the racetracks in Kansas and Wisconsin, it helps to have a big hat on, but I am rather fair-skinned and I have never burned with #40 yet. I love that Aloe Gator is NOT greasy and it makes my skin feel soft. It's the best sunscreen I've used so far - I put it on and forget it!
As far as the price goes, it beats the cheaper products that you have to reapply over and over after you're in the water - so actually you save money applying it once.

During five hour flight to our destination, the seals at the bottoms of two of the four containers failed - apparently a result of the cabin pressure flucuations. Fortunately we had packed the containers in zip-lock baggies or there would have been quite a mess to clean up. Perhaps the container manufacturer could improve on this because losing half of the product prior to arrival was a huge disappointment and waste of money. Otherwise, the product is as advertised.

I used this stuff while hiking and river rafting thru the Grand Canyon for 7 days in the sun. I never got burnt. I have used the stuff for years after, and have never received a burn while using it. One of the plusses of the small container size is that it is compact and light to carry with you in your daypack, or even in your cargo pants pocket (I know these things say they last all day, but I like to have it with me so I can reapply every 4-6 hours just in case). The only con is that it is expensive.
