Comments about Thorlo CoolMax Light Hiker Socks:

History: I'm Activity Duty Army going on 14 years with several deployments under my belt and miles and miles logged on the feet: and perhaps the worst part of the issued gear are the boots and socks. However over the years things have gotten better especially with the boots now that the military has authorized various styles made by varied civilian companies. Currently my favorites are the OTB's designed by New Balance, and Danner's TFX Summer Boots. The "military type" socks sold are still for me worthless for numerous reasons. Several years ago I sought to find a worthy sock that was made in a semi-military color (black's, tan's, browns, greens etc) and came across this sock although it was woven with some white threads I figured they are in my boots and under my pant legs. I was also an avid Boy Scouter (got my Eagle) and in my slim free time i try to do a little civilian backpacking/camping so have a fairly good base knowledge on the subject of sort. Anyway the sock: I have put multiple pairs of which i still own through, by the nature of my job and such, extreme conditions such as 130-140 degree desert heat for 18-20hrs a day; completely soaked trudging through creeks and rivers in Fort Bragg North Carolina; and even a 32-mile civilian 3-day backpacking trip on the Tahoe-Rim Trail around Lake Tahoe Nevada, all again having logged hundreds of miles mostly in/on military type boots. Theses socks are very durable and the fabrics and materials hold up strong, with very minimal fading; barely frays even after years of wearing and washing, retains its elasticity/shape, doesn't stretch out after a while like some socks tend to do. One caveat to fraying: I had one or two pairs that the top of the toes frayed pretty bad, but I think it was mostly because of the inside of my boots and the way they were rubbing or something snagged them once. In all my years of the military I have had the least amount of blisters in these socks (like only a couple on my heals resultant of water logged feet/boots and terrain which caused some rubbing). Sometimes blisters are just gonna happen no matter what, but I don't fault the socks. Additionally these socks have a good amount of padding/cushioning in all the right places especially in the boot lacing area, helping to reduce pressure points often caused with too thin of a sock; and I found them to be moderately warm in cool temperatures of down to about 40 and even 30 degrees (unless you are standing still for several hours). I own about 20 pairs now as i spend 75% or more of my time in uniform and boots, and these are the only socks I buy and wear in my duty uniform. Can't say these will be the bread winner for everyone, as we all have different feet with different needs, but they are for me and well worth their price.

Comments about Thorlo CoolMax Light Hiker Socks:

These socks are wonderful. I wore them while hiking in Belize, and they wicked moisture well and were very breatheable. I wore them on a cold day here in Ohio and they were warm and comfy. Sometimes I wear them around the house. They're really supportive, too. I have zero complaints. I bought five or six pairs because I love them so much.

Comments about Thorlo CoolMax Light Hiker Socks:

I have 5 pairs of these. The first pair is 15 years old. I wear them weekly. NO HOLES. These last forever! The elastic at the top is starting to give a little but the rest is still going strong. I would like to see a warmer winter version, as my feet get a little cold in the winter. Maybe a wool blend?

Comments about Thorlo CoolMax Light Hiker Socks:

Great socks. Bought two pairs for my 14-day hiking trip, with 5-7 miles of hiking each day. Washed one pair each night and wore the other pair the next day. Slow drying, so overnight drying not likely to work. These are very comfortable socks, however, and well worth it. I have replaced my smartWool socks with these because these fit better.

Comments about Thorlo CoolMax Light Hiker Socks:

Own 6 pairs of these purchased 4+ years ago. Wear them just about every weekend and all the time while backpacking or on vacation. They wear extremely well. My oldest pair (about 5 years old) is starting to get a little slack, but they aren't saggy. Bottoms still look new - no holes or abrasions, even after wearing them in boots for weeks on end. My feet overheat easily and these are great for keeping me as cool as possible. I recommend them highly.

Comments about Thorlo CoolMax Light Hiker Socks:

These socks are excellent, and I own many pairs of different weights. I've never had a blister with Thorlos socks, and they wick better than any other material available. This Light Hiker style is perfect for daily use (I wear them to work), and they last for almost ever. They do not shrink with repeated washings, either.

Comments about Thorlo CoolMax Light Hiker Socks:

I wear these socks daily, for everything. They launder well, don't get thin in the heels and ball of the foot, don't bunch, and don't shrink. I've yet to wear any out. The comfort and durability make these the best socks I've ever owned, well worth the price. Good in hot weather or cold.
My only criticism is that they could wick slightly better. After a long day my feet feel a little moist.

Comments about Thorlo CoolMax Light Hiker Socks:

I tested these socks on my recent trip to Yosemite for the half-dome hike. The hike itself was pretty dry so wet shoes/socks wasn't a problem. Here are the benefits for those who are interested:
-Thick, durable socks to keep you warm
                  -Fits pretty well
                  -blister free feet
                  -Did what it had advertised.

However, after returning from the hike and changing into something more comfortable, I found that my feet were a little moist. The wicking can be better improved but again it was hardly noticeable and it didn't hindrance any performance throughout the whole entire hiking trip. In fact, I didn't notice that my feet were moist until I removed the socks. Explore away adventurers!

Comments about Thorlo CoolMax Light Hiker Socks:

Had several pair for two years. They are sturdy, good fit and comfortable. I cannot wear any socks with wool due to skin irritations. These are great in all seasons. For heavier hiking I use the padded thorlos.
Cons: After wearing all day they start to itch a bit, but that may be my particular skin sensitivity. I switched to another brand and do not have the same problem.
