The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about REI Zip-O-Gauge Thermometer:
Failed to give accurate readings at low temps. The scale is so small as to almost be worthess. +- 10 degrees precision on scale reading

Comments about REI Zip-O-Gauge Thermometer:
This thermometer is not very accurate and is incredibly difficult to read. You have to hold it at an exact angle to see the red and the black lines are so close together you cannot read it easily. I have compared it with other thermometers and it is consistently around 10 degrees higher than the actual temperature.

Comments about REI Zip-O-Gauge Thermometer:
I bought two of these in 2011--one for work and one for backpacking. The first one let me know how hot it really was at work--as there isn't air conditioning. The second we took on the Continental Divide Trail in Colorado. Both developed bubbles in the red part after a few days. It was helpful to have an estimated temp, but it was frustrating not to know the actual temp, especailly in trying to evaluate the effectiveness of our new sleeping bags, tent, etc. during the cold nights.

Comments about REI Zip-O-Gauge Thermometer:
This thing is accurate. I really don't understand the comments about it's inaccuracy. I got this to get a ballpark idea of the temperature, not to the last degree. It makes no sense to seek that in this product, it covers from 120°F to -20°F in about one inch. Each line represents 5 degrees. It's perfect.
I use it as zipper pull as has been fine. Perhaps they've beefed up the plastic as it looks that it can take abuse. The wind chill factor chart in the back is a nice addition. I bought this at the store and there you have a selection of colors, the white shown here, a florescent yellow, blue and green.

Comments about REI Zip-O-Gauge Thermometer:
Those on the rack at the store varied a bit in the temperature they showed. I picked the one in the middle. And it's fine at room temperature. Unfortunately, when it's cold the accuracy is horrible, e.g. 5 degrees low at 30 and 12 degrees low at zero.

Comments about REI Zip-O-Gauge Thermometer:
In 1983, REI gave these out as favors during the opening of the Orange County, CA store, and I've had one of these dangling off the zipper on my Kelty ever since. It's simple, light, useful and worth having.
The wind-chill chart on the back is informative and it's always nice to have a relatively accurate measure of current temperature without weight penalty.
I wouldn't use this as a zipper pull, and the plastic isn't beefy enough to take much of a beating, but if you can dangle it somewhere useful, you'll find it to be an "old reliable".

Comments about REI Zip-O-Gauge Thermometer:
This is a very handy thing to have. I just clipped mine to the outside of my pack and it has worked wonderfully. The only gripe I have is that unless you're holding it at the perfect angle it is very difficult to read. Other than that, I'm quite happy.

Comments about REI Zip-O-Gauge Thermometer:
I have these on a few of my packs. It is easy to just leave them there. Very light weight. They are somewhat useful, but the lines are small and close together, so it is hard to get an exact temperature. If I squint I can get withing maybe 5 degrees. If that is useful to you, then they work great. Really nice for cold weather hiking and camping.

Comments about REI Zip-O-Gauge Thermometer:
This is a sweet tool that you will use. Better than old design as this now has a metal back instead of plastic (which seemed to insulate and prevent accurate readings) or cardboard/paper (which did not last).
windchill chart on the back is useful also.
The review that said it broke in a slot canyon is irrelevant, if you are in a slot canyon-don't put it on the outside of your pack.:)

Comments about REI Zip-O-Gauge Thermometer:
I got one of these and connected it to a zipper on my backpack and headed down the Grand Canyon. By the time I reached the bottom, the alcohol tube had busted and red stuff was everywhere. I guess it couldn't take the constant banging it took on my backpack.
This is a really practical idea and hopefully I just received a faulty product.
