Comments about Aloe Gator Super Total Sunblock Gel SPF 40+ - 4 fl. oz.:
I have used Aloe Gator 40+ gel since decades ago and couldn't find it for a long time. It was great to see it at REI. This gel isn't really greasy, although many experience it as such. It's really like a flexible wax coating once it's on. Pat with a kleenex the overly-thick spots and you'll be as protected as you can be. I've never gotten a sunburn with it.
But, sad to say, this is goodbye to my favorite sunblock. I finally looked up every one of the ingredients and was horrified (not that it's very different from others). Some of that stuff worries me. Also, often I would turn uncomfortably red, though it wasn't a sunburn, and the reason dawned on me when I read that some of the ingredients are suspected by some of being photosensitizers. But I might use it again briefly if I needed something heavy-duty in a pinch.

I put this on my face and hiked up a mountain, sweat pouring down my face and into my eyes (requiring some wiping of sweat from brow and eyes). This is the first sunscreen I've encountered that doesn't burn your eyes (that includes popular products like Coppertone Sport that says "won't burn eyes" right on the bottle). When you put sunscreen on your face, it may not "run" into your eyes, but it will eventually get rubbed there, so it's important that it doesn't burn when that happens. Aloe Gator works!
The main drawbacks of this product are its greasyness (I can live with that in such a well performing product), and that it's so viscous that it's hard to apply evenly and you may irritate your skin with rubbing (I left some red streaks on my face and neck that lasted an hour after application). Next time I'll apply it more heavily to provide more lubrication and ease spreading. This also means it takes a bit longer to apply.
I still prefer sprays or lotions for arms/legs/torso because they go on faster (I could spend an hour applying thicker stuff like this to my whole body), but Aloe Gator is now the only product I'll use on my face and neck if I can help it.

Comments about Aloe Gator Super Total Sunblock Gel SPF 40+ - 4 fl. oz.:
One of the best sunblocks available. I've taken this on 4 day trips through The Lost Coast (no shade) and through Arizona canyons (barely any shade) and made it out with zero burns. After days on the trail I come home with a light golden tan while less fortunate companions get turned into tomatoes. I've taken it out to the river where I've spent long days getting in and out of the water. This stuff never seems to lose it's strength throughout the day.
The only downside is that it is quite thick and greasy. When wearing it backpacking I find that dirt tends to stick to me very easily as a result. But I would rather deal with that than a sunburn any day.

I have been using aloe gator for well into 15 years and it is theeee best sunblock for me. No tears and stays on for up to eight hours in the surf. Best if reapplied after 4. Glob that stuff on it's great!
AND if you do get burned because you didn't use it, glob it on the burn for the next 3 days and it heals and soothes like magic! It's mega greasy tho, so keep that in mind.

We are a family with very fair skin. This sunscreen is amazing! I cannot imagine another beach trip, boat outing, a summer camp without Aloe Gator. It is an oil based sunscreen but it dries very quickly, adding moisture to dry skin. I put this on my daughter at 7 AM, send her to a camp in which she is constantly in the sun and water - until 6 PM. With no reapplication, she comes home completely sunburn free. I tell everyone about Aloe Gator. It is guaranteed for eight hours, but it lasts longer. While it may be a tad pricier than what you get in the grocery store, with only one or two applications each day versus four to six with other brands,it is a cost saver! I highly recommend this product.

I've used Aloe Gator 40+ for many years. The secret is to apply it everywhere that the sun will get to with a thin rubbed on layer. It takes a little patience to thin it out on your body but it works even on your scalp, even if you have just thinning hair. If it is sticky and will rub off, you have put on too much. Daily use on face, head, neck and hands will allow a 4 oz tube to last for months. Full body coverage for swimsuit and beach use will last for at least two weeks. If don't want to get sunburned this is the answer.

Yes it's gel...Very goopy gel that starts off like gel toothpaste but STAYS sticky ALL DAY! You'll get dirt in it, you'll get it all over yourself, and if you ride a bike - BEWARE! You'll arrive at lunch covered in bugs - I'M NOT KIDDING! Stick with the Aloe Gator or REI white stuff that disappears in a minute or so.

This is a very greasy product and the BEST and ONLY sunscreen that can withstand hours in the water, surfing, kitesurfing, windsurfing. Everything else washes away: bless Aloe Gator for making that stuff, and REI for carrying it.
A must for kite instructors!

I bought this expecting a quick dry gel sunscreen like Bullfrog used to make. This sunscreen is a gel, but that's the only similarity - this stuff is thick, sticky and greasy on your skin. And it doesn't rub in either. It looks and feels like a layer of Vaseline on my skin. Not recommended.
