I have carried a Swiss Army Knife for the thrity years that I worked in Haiti. It met numerous needs of a tool in an emergency. including one time when the Calypso helocopter pilo needed a tool to make an adjustment on the helocopter. I was irratated when tne TSA appropreated it at MIA after I had gone through 3 security checks prior to arrival at MIA. So I needed a replacement be feel naked.

I gave this to my husband for his birthday. He had lost his several years ago and complained everytime he wished he still had it. He finds ways to use it almost everyday.

Comments about Victorinox Super Tinker Swiss Army Knife:
I have several swiss knives but this is my favorite for camping / backpacking. Beyond a knife for cutting, to me it has everything I'm likely to use on any given trip and minimal extra items (could do without that hook thingy). I mean, I have ones that have the hack saws and metal files and all that and it can be cool to wipe out that wood saw once a year but really, what do you need for general outdoor stuff?
A blade for cutting
Sissors - actually, these are questionable to me even, but sometimes sissors are just easier to use... try successfully trimming your nails with just a knife
Screw drivers - eventually all screws come loose and need tightened up. Stoves, etc.
Can opener - well, it comes on the screw driver, but really, for camping these days can are rare things in my world.
Bottle opener - could say the same for bottle opener, but I will never knock anything that helps me get to a beer :)
Aw - well, I have use this for various unintended purposes, sometimes without injurying myself.
My biggest grip about this or any other knife with a phillips screw driver is mouting on the bottom side with the resulting "T" formation... really decreases the utility of that blade... but all things considered, the best combination of blades for me.

Comments about Victorinox Super Tinker Swiss Army Knife:
My Dad bought me this knife at an REI store on the way to my first Outward Bound course in 1982. In the 28 years since then it has been used constantly and reliably in every situation imaginable: home, work (geologist), camping, climbing, everywhere. The large and small blades both have their specific functions and hold a razor-sharp edge forever, and are easily sharpenable when they do finally dull a little; SA/Victorinox's can and bottle openers work better than anyone else's; the wire stripper strips wire just fine; the scissors work beautifully (especially for trimming blisters and cutting mole skin! they even cut aluminum cans! and the springs last almost forever, and new ones are easy to come by and replace); the Phillips and flat-head screwdrivers made of Victorinox stainless steel never dull or round-off; the awl punches through anything and stays sharp; the tweezers are great for plucking and holding all kinds of little things; and the toothpick, well it picks teeth and other things just fine. Mine has been used so much that the stainless steel Victorinox emblem on the red side panel actually sticks up higher than the red plastic around it that has been worn down over the years. Oh, and the red plastic panels have never loosened, cracked or come off. So what's more to say? I'd love to get a brand new shiny one to play with, but the one I have just won't wear out. Oh darn!

The Super Tinker rocks!
For tough screws, the phillips screwdriver is better than an ordinary screwdriver; not kidding. I'd much rather have the screwdriver over the corkscrew.
And all the tools are great... and actually work. I've used every tool successfully... except for the "wire stripper". :)
I think this model (or the Victorinox "Mechanic", with pliers instead of scissors... which are very handy for grabbing hot cooking utensils when camping)is my favorite swiss army knife.
Due to it's compactness and strength, I say these knives are still the best multi-tool for any camping (sorry Leatherman).

Comments about Victorinox Super Tinker Swiss Army Knife:
I haven't owned a Swiss Army knife for a long time and when my Gerber broke I decided to give the Super Tinker a shot. I use it as a daily carry knife and needed something that I could carry in my pocket comfortably.
From the first day I had it I found uses for it. From adjusting the idle on my friends dirtbike with the screwdriver to using the scissors to cut paper at work, it's been invaluable.
The construction is what you'd expect of a Swiss Army knife. Solid and well done. The steel seems to be of high quality and the knife opens and closes smoothly.
I highly recommend this knife to those who need a mult-tool for daily use. However, if you need a knife for backcountry use, I'd go with another model. This one seems better suited for daily use and home repair type stuff.
If you get this knife, you won't be sorry.
