Tips for the First-Time Shopper

Use the search engine to find products

In the search box next to the REI logo found at the top of each page on REI.com, type in key words or phrases. For examples: "backpack" or "sleeping bag." Then click on the arrow or hit your enter key.

The search engine will then show a list of products that meet your search query. You can sort these results by Bestselling, Brand or Price, as well as choose to show up to 100 products per page. To compare product features, check the compare box under the products you'd like to compare then hit your enter key. To go to an item's in-depth product information page, click on any item on the page.

Once you have arrived at the product information page, you can read in-depth production information as well as customer reviews, see additional photos, and more. Select the color and/or size, and quantity, then add the product to your Shopping Cart by clicking the orange "add to cart" button.

You can then continue shopping or, if finished, click on the orange "proceed to checkout" button on your Shopping Cart page.

The search box below is just like the one that appears at the top of every page. To start your search now, type a keyword like "tent" or "shoes" in it and click the arrow.

Shopping for catalog items online

In the search box next to the REI logo found at the top of each page on REI.com, type in either the catalog product name or its six-digit item number found at the end of the product description, just before the price. Then click on the arrow or hit your enter key.

The search engine will then show a list of products that meet your search query. You can sort these results by Bestselling, Brand or Price, as well as choose to show up to 100 products per page. To compare product features, check the compare box under the products you'd like to compare then hit your enter key. To go to an item's in-depth product information page, click on any item on the page.
