Comments about Potable Aqua Iodine and Taste-Neutralizer Tablets:
I've been using this stuff for about ten years now in the Sierra as I pretty much refuse to carry a heavy filter. I use it for treating water on approaches and lower elevations and late inthe season. For over eight years have been drinking untreated water in the high country and even a few lakes without incident, which makes me wonder about sales and promoting water born parisites???

Comments about Potable Aqua Iodine and Taste-Neutralizer Tablets:
When I was in the military, they issued us iodine tabs such as these. They're effective for bacteria (modern medicine uses iodine solutions for cleaning wounds & equipment) but as the label warns: " Not intended for use against viruses or the protozoa cyptosporidum ." They are better than nothing, but other products should be reviewed. Some parasites, once ingested and embedded in your GI tract are very, very hard to eliminate.

Used these on the John Muir Trail in Yosemite. They provided bacteria free water and the taste wasn't bad either. However, the iodine stains hydration reservoirs a brown color.

This is the way to go for lightweight backpacking - forget the filter and go with the drops if you want to shed pounds off your back. Only disadvantage is waiting for the chemicals to work (especially if cold or murky water).

Comments about Potable Aqua Iodine and Taste-Neutralizer Tablets:
We do alot of canoe camping. Get our water from the middle of the lake then put the tablets in. We make up 2 1/2 gal. at a time. Doesn't taste bad but we still mix nearly all of our drinking water with tang. Never had any health problems that I'm aware of. Only thing that confuses me a bit though is that for years the label read, "use one tablet per qt. of water". Now it says use two. Was I endangering myself for all those years or is two simply overkill?
