Comments about Garmin GPSMAP 76CSx GPS:
I had the Colorado 400t and took it back because it was horrible. Too many bugs, very slow response at times, and the screen is too large and sucks too much juice. I purchased the 76Csx instead. I got 20+ hours of heavy use out of two cheap NiCad rechargable batteries with the 76Csx. No bugs in this unit- very smooth operation! It is accurate and very sensitive. I have the unit on as I sit in the lower level of my home 20ft away from a window right now and I have 11 sattelites and +/- 21 feet of accuracy. I love the ease of use and the ability to create tracks, download different maps, create waypoints, etc. It is fun to use on a plane to see how fast you are flying, how high, and the time to your destination. This is great for kayaking or hiking. The unit floats which is a huge plus. Buy this unit!!
One note: you will NEED to figure maps into the purchase price. The basemap is inadequate for hiking, driving, etc. I have Inland Lakes, all three National Parks, Topo 2008, Metroguide Europe and North America, Topo Canada, and Non-Garmin Mexico guide and all work very well with this unit.

Comments about Garmin GPSMAP 76CSx GPS:
i've used this unit for 3 years. it's simple, accurate and relatively inexpensive. you can buy topo maps or generate your own maps if the purchased maps don't show enough detail. the only con i can think of is that the mapsource software doesn't make it easy to incorporate specific points by simply pointing and clicking an aerial photo for example. with a little extra effort, you can work around this one issue.

Comments about Garmin GPSMAP 76CSx GPS:
This is the best GPS Map76 yet! I have had 4 differnt GPS' over the years and this one keeps surprising me with more and better features. Its easy to use, just drop it in your shirt pocket, fits on the handel bar of my quad, mounts on the deck of my sailboat. really useful when racing. When I need to find a specific long and lat it takes me to the spot quickly and easily.
I use a GPS to find locations, section corners, hunting spots, where I left the horses, how to get to some city or town and when I will get there. I have maps downloaded into the device as well as interactive real time tracking on my computer while I drive. I generally stay found. It is great to know where you are as well as where you are going.
The tracks come in handy when you want to remember how you got to a spot or how you get back.
This model replaces a little older GPS Map76 csx that was stollen. I almost want to thank theives for setting up the oportunity to have this newer machine. It is much better with the more battery life, memory chip is phenominal and is lighter than my older same model. There are a few nicer bells and whistles but I have had this particular style GPS since 2002. They just keep getting better and better. The user interphase is really pretty easy to use and the learning curve is fairly flat and short. You will be navigating very quickly. And its bullet proof, I have not been able to break anything in it. My oldest GPS has a couple of buttons getting prety worn but its 6 years old. Its now my back up.
This Model is faster, lighter and more accurate. The antena is more sensative than my previous models that I thought were pretty good. This one is better.
The only draw back is the price tag. But as I am sold long ago on the power, usefulness and security in having one a good GPS. I believe the investment justifiable. For all you get its really a deal!

This was a replacement for an eTrex Legend that I've had for several years. Its larger but not so large that it doesn't easily slip into a cargo pocket. I really love the speed with which it picks up signal when you first turn it on and the color display is great. The controls are easy to use and the menu's are easy to navigate once you get used to them. I like the geocaching features and the ease with which it links to my PC. On the down side when I'm walking with it - geocaching it keeps loosing the directional arrow and telling me to "Hold Level" but even if I set it on a table the arrow doesn't come back - this is very frustrating. All in all I wouldn't pay the extra money for the compass again I'd just get the CX instead.

We purchased this unit for travel in the US and overseas, mostly for backpacking adventures through new countries and motorcycle trips. Sturdy construction and waterproof design make it very useful when we get caught in a downpour. Menus take a little getting used to but otherwise easy to use and very accurate. Only downside is the software is not MAC compatible.

Comments about Garmin GPSMAP 76CSx GPS:
I bought this GPS to replace a Rino 120. I wanted more memory and better reception. The color screen, barometric altimeter, and electronic compass were bonuses, though I don't use them that much. This GPS has more memory than I know what to do with. I use it for geocaching, hiking, boating, and any other time I might need a GPS.
This thing is pretty bombproof. On a paddling trip on the Middle Youghiogheny River (Class II+), the canoe I was paddling capsized and got pinned on a rock for an hour. The GPS was lashed to the thwart, and stayed on the entire time...and was still working when I got the boat back. I just had to take the batteries out and dry the battery compartment before using it again.
My only beef is that Garmin limits map data uploads by map segments, rather than by available memory. So, while my 1gig memory chip has space to spare, I cannot load more than half the country's topo maps onto my GPS. There's enough space on the 2gig chip to load all of city nav AND topo, but the map segment limit prevents anyone from doing this. Otherwise, it's an outstanding receiver.

This unit does it all. I purchased the 76csx for several reasons. Expandable memory, driving directions, and some measure of waterproofing. I have taken it geocaching, in any car for directions, and on hikes, skiing, snowshoeing, and kayaking for travel data. Works great everytime. Would recommend this unit to someone who needs a GPS that does it all.
