Comments about Lowa Renegade GTX Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
I was primarily looking for a relatively lighter weight boot for longer hikes and these seemed on first look to work for me, and still do after several weeks. Will have to see about winter. Despite what Lowa says on their site, these are really not stiff enough for light to moderate-weight backpacking and take caution of reviews based on that or heavier use. The soles on these flex, which is helpful on uphills but the lack of a stiff sole will not be to many people's liking (esp. with a backpack!). Also, the Lowa insoles are of low quality and something with better cushioning is suggested. As for foot fit, I have Taylor's bunions and have been able to make these work with a little spot stretching, tho breakin takes a while. I prefer a boot that is snug on my relatively thin lower legs/ankles, so that my leg/foot work as one, and these do fairly well, though need retieing occasionally. The middle tongue loop is poorly placed and probably best ignored. The plastic upper hooks do worry me. Most worrisome tho is that the boot uppers are unusually designed for a hiking boot, with a few separate pieces of leather held together with lots of exposed stitching. I've got my fingers crossed about that.

Comments about Lowa Renegade GTX Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
I bought these Lowas because I needed lightweight boots for frequent int'l travel. They are lightweight, reasonably comfortable initially, and very water-resistant (to the point that feet stay dry even when boots are immersed in shallow water or mud). However the boot is poorly designed: stitching is positioned at the widest part of the boot exterior, so it is very prone to abrasion, and doesn't hold up. I've needed to have mine re-sewn 3X in 2 yrs, so now the leather won't hold stitching. Also, the soles are very soft (easily gouged) & flexible, and ankle support isn't great, so the boots aren't suitable for sidehilling or scrambling in talus or scree.
They're probably best for day hikes on trails, but if you're considering any use more demanding than that, I would look for something other than these Lowas.

Comments about Lowa Renegade GTX Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
Boots are very comfortable right out of the box. This is my second pair...well, actually 3rd pair due to poor stitching on the latest version.
My first pair that I bought a few years ago held up great! The nice looking brown boots.
My recently purchased boots started to rip at the seam on the outside of the boot. I had no wear on the stitches...they just started to come undone after 6 months or so.
On a good note for REI, they took my boots back and gave me a new replacement pair! THAT is customer service.
Hopefully Lowa will create better stitching, and hopefully the curent pair I have do not encounter the same problems.

Comments about Lowa Renegade GTX Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
These boots feel fantastic straight out of box. No breaking required. But after the second hike, one lace hook (2nd from top) broke. It simply came off. On closer inspection, it looks like a poor design, so instead of replacing, I will get a different brand. Too bad, these were the comfiest boots I ever owned.

Comments about Lowa Renegade GTX Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
I have had 4 pairs of these boots going back 8 years and 2 or 3 changes in design. The first 3 pairs lasted me 2 years each. The 4th and final pair I just returned because they have ended up to narrow and I had some pain in my right little toe after a long days use. I have a wide foot and am not easy to fit a boot too. I actually wore the 4th pair for quite a few months before deciding to return them [...]. With all that said my wife and are avid day hikers in the Northern Sierra regions and these boots up to the 4th pair have been nothing short of awesome. If they fit my foot I'd still be using them. I loved them so much I started to call them my life assault shoe. Which basically meant if there was any question about any activity I was doing this was my go to shoe. I have traveled the world with them and never been let down. From Disneyland to wet and dry hiking in the Sierra's this was my shoe of choice. Unfortunately either my foot got wider (which I do not doubt) or Lowa narrowed the fit a little becuase I cannot use them any longer. Again I typically have to buy EEEE widths in dress shoes and running shoes so I'm used to these problems. If they fit buy them.

I used this boot for day hikes and a couple of 150 milers. Have owned them for a couple of years then BAM...the seam on one of the boots just began to unravel. From having read others review I see this is not that uncommon for this boot. Other than that they are/were the perfect boot as I was able to put mega-mileage on them right out of the box which was my dominant buying motive. Am presently looking at other Lowas in preparation for 2 months on the AT next winter.

I have had these for about 10 months. Probably put about 400 miles on them and the seams on both boots are coming apart. I really hoped to get more life out of them.

Ready, right out of the box. Break in nil.For me very comfortable. After 1st thousand miles they still feel great. Best shoe for up to trail hiking I've ever owned. I wished they made a high top for more rigorus adventure, such as hunting. In my opinion, these boots just weren't made for sidehilling rough terrain. But for hiking, they're hard to beat.

Comments about Lowa Renegade GTX Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
Bought these because I have the Renegade GTX shoe equivalent and I LOVE them. I did not need to break these boots in. They were quite comfortable right out of the box just like the Renegade shoe. Very lightweight compared to my other backpacking boots by almost a full pound. The GTX version with Gortex will keep your feet dry, as long as you don't let water seep in over the top and the ankle support is superior for a boot of this weight. Cons: my first overnight backcountry trip in these was in the Mount Rogers NRA and I found the soles did not have the traction I needed and I did feel the terrain through the soles (mostly rocks). I would recommend these to a fellow hiker altough not for long trips in more rocky terrian and where a sole with more bite might be required. Perfect for moist day hikes, and overnights where weight, comfort and ankle support are a must!!
