Comments about REI Bug Hut 1 Tent:
I've had this for a few years, and I'm assuming the current version doesn't already deal with my complaint -- judging by the product photo, I don't think it does.
Pros: yes, it is very light and capable -- if the flaws below don't bother you, then it can be a great product.
Cons: two flaws, one major (for me), one minor:
Big problem: the lack of a floor means that this will protect you -- probably -- against flying bugs, and against stupid crawling bugs. But if there are crawlies around that explore, they'll find their way under the curtain, so don't camp near an ant's nest and expect this to help. And if you toss and turn at all, you are likely to lift the edge of the curtain up enough to let in the flying bugs too. (I've been thinking about buying some window screen material and doing something with velcro, but haven't bothered yet...)
Little problem: the poles that hold this up consist of five segments that fit into their neighbors, but they can easily slip apart if they aren't kept under tension. In other words, there are no internal shock cords as there are with "real" tent poles. So while you work to slide one segment through a sleeve, the rest of the pole might just fall apart. As I said, not a huge problem, but if you are being eaten alive by mosquitos and struggling in the dark, it might get very annoying.
It would be nice to see an updated version of this product that provides more secure coverage against creepies and crawlies, not just flying pests, and that uses a cleaner shockcorded pole system (with clips, not sleeves, perhaps?)

Comments about REI Bug Hut 1 Tent:
This product is not for everyone, but it is perfect for those of us who like a little more exposure to the outdoors and who like to carry as little weight as possible. The biggest con to this is probably the fact that it has no floor. I have cut a piece of plastic that fits as a second piece and use it as a floor. This is not appropriate for all my trips, but it is great in warmer weather. I really do enjoy using it when I get the opportunity.

Comments about REI Bug Hut 1 Tent:
This is a great produce. It is extremely lightweight, and packs perfectly. I used this in a village while traveling to Papua New Guinea and was doing some reading by flashlight when I looked up and noticed a ton of bugs on the roof of the Bug Hut. I was VERY happy they were on it and not me. A floor would've been nice, but it still did the trick.

this rocks! it only weighs a pound so i bring it with every trip, and on the nice nights i dont bother with a tent i just set this up and look at the stars. its easy to set up and looks cool! only problem is no bottom but a thermarest takes care of that.

Comments about REI Bug Hut 1 Tent:
I love this product minus one major issue... NO FLOOR! I purchased this at a member's only garage sale event, so I got it for a great price! I lucked out cuz I'm pretty sure I wouldn't pay what they're asking... especially with no floor. I'm thinking of sewing an extra tent foot print or tarp to the bottom. I'm very surprised REI hasn't taken the advice of every person who uses this product by creating a floor for their newer models. Anyway, awesome idea, poor execution. One of the few REI products that is very average in my opinion.
