Comments about Columbia Sportswear Bora Bora Booney Hat:
I'm not a fan of the booney hat look, but after finally wearing one I'm a believer. The sun protection is fantastic and the open ventilation helps keep my head cool. I always used to burn the back of my neck when hiking even with sunscreen on, but now my neck stays shaded and cool.

Comments about Columbia Sportswear Bora Bora Booney Hat:
This is a really great hat that can be used in many situations. I've used it primarily for hiking in the desert in Summer, but it's a pretty durable hat and seems to handle water/damp quite well. The ventilation allows you to feel cool breezes without exposing your head to direct sunlight.

Comments about Columbia Sportswear Bora Bora Booney Hat:
This hat works well in hot, humid weather or during strenuous activities when the sweat is dripping. The plush sweatband can feel warm, but handles the sweat and dries quickly. The mesh crown ventilates well, but can let some burning rays through which would be a concern for bald heads or high foreheads. It stays relatively dry and cool inside. The broad brim provides good shade for the face, ears and neck. The hat is surprisingly lightweight. It can be packed flat in a suitcase repeatedly and for extended periods without any change in appearance or function. In a strong wind, it stays on with or without the chin cord, but the brim flops up easily, which is annoying. Although not the most stylish hat out there, it is better-looking than most other performance-oriented, crushable designs, in my opinion. I prefer REI's Dorfman Pacific Mesh Trekker hat for comfort and wind stability, but that one is not nearly as crushable and the cotton twill can waterlog more easily. The Bora Bora hat is a better choice for travel or water sports. It is not a rain hat, but for short periods or light rain it remains comfortable, the water beads off of the nylon (but not the mesh) and the broad brim provides welcome shelter for the face and neck.
It comes in one size only with an elastic adjustment cord and will fit up to about hat size 7-1/2" (XL), which should fit most people. I wear 7-3/8" (L) and it fits very well. Sizing it down to very small sizes causes some bunching at the back of the hat.
There is also a smaller model for kids. The junior model can be sized down to fit my 5-year old and should continue to fit him for quite a few years. My 11-year old nephew also has one that still fits him. The junior model may possibly fit petite women (?). I find it easier to get my son to wear this hat than other hats, maybe because it looks like Dad's hat (and that may be reason enough to buy a pair).
It is a practical and durable sun hat and a good value. If you only have one sun hat, this would be a good choice due to its versatility.

Comments about Columbia Sportswear Bora Bora Booney Hat:
I always hated wearing baseball caps and/or straw hats; this hat I can wear. This is a great hat. I stuff it in a pocket and it creases a little but eventually returns to its shape. Keeps the sun off, ventilates the top of my head, and in a headwind I tighten the cordlock to fit it closer to my head and tighten the chin strap.
