Comments about REI Thermo Mug:
Great mug! It keeps my coffee warm for a couple hours. The measuring indicator opposite the REI logo is accurate; but, hard to see when used with dark liquids like coffee. My first one cracked when I accidentally boiledsome coffee with it in the microwave.DON'T USE IT FOR BOILING LIQUIDS IN THE MICROWAVE![...]

Comments about REI Thermo Mug:
I like to travel light and small, but like proper sized cups. This product can be used for hot and cold beverages, soups, or as a measuring cup for cooking.
It is very sturdy and well finished.

Comments about REI Thermo Mug:
I have used a number of these cups over the last 4 years. They do an excellent job of keeping hot things hot and cold things cold.
They are NOT, however, dishwasher safe, nor safe with very hot camp dish water. The seal between the inner and outer cup leaks when the outer cup is very warm. That lets water, tea, coffee, whatever, get between the inner and outer layers. If it is tea or coffee, eventually the solids fall as sediment between the two walls, and the sediment then will eventually rot there.
They also are not stackable, so are not worth taking on a packing-in trip into wilderness, as they are very bulky if you need more than one. They could be vastly improved by making the handle seperable from the cup body. They could be even more improved by not trying to seal the inner and outer cups together. That would enable cleaning the insides/outsides of both parts, and would make it possible to buy say, two outer cups and 6 or 8 inner cups, with all the cups being stackable and occupying a great deal less space.

Comments about REI Thermo Mug:
2 yrs. ago, bought 2 of these for car camping with Cub Scouts, which happens about 4x/yr. At the last camp, I noticed water had collected between the sides in one mug. Upon closer examination, many small cracks had developed throughout the plastic and a larger one had gone through the outside bottom. So far, the other mug looks OK, with far fewer cracks.According to the product specs, the mug is made of SAN (styrene acrylonitrile.) From a quick search on the web, I found several references that say that SAN is limited to a little over 100 degrees F. "Low maximum continuous use temperature 55°C (130°F)." [@]his may explain why it's failing.

me and my dad take this on every trip we go on. it is the best dish we have ever used. we can use it for eating, and measuring water at the same time. it can fit on the outside of your pack, and it is very easy to use.it works great to measure out water for food, because it is exactly one cup. WE LOVE IT!!!!!

Comments about REI Thermo Mug:
3.5 stars, actually.
I wasn't expecting much because of the price, and I usually dislike plastic gear, but this cup has done well so far. I've had it for a couple years now, and it seems very stable.
It is getting a few of those tiny little crack things that hard plastic gets.. you know, the ones you can see, but don't seem to leak or compromise the structure in any way. It seems like it will last for a while longer though.
It's not too wide or shallow or tippy or any of those other awkward little annoyances that sometimes come with travel cups. Its proportions are perfect, comfort-wise... even if it is a little chunky.
When it dies, I'll probably search for a different type of mug, but I'm satisfied with it for now, and for the price it's really pretty nice.
The only reason I said "would not recommend" is because I only recommend truly awesome stuff.

Comments about REI Thermo Mug:
Bought x3 of these for a recent trip, and x2 failed. On one, the outer wall cracked from the inside ... this was not an impact crack and there was no loss of outer wall plastic. On another cup, the handle just came off during light duty. Nice idea, terrible quality. Not worth buying, and am returning them.

Comments about REI Thermo Mug:
I primarily use it to drink coffee. It would be perfect if they got rid of the handle (less bulk) and added a sippy lid to keep hot beverages hot on cold mornings.
