Comments about Black Diamond Raven Ice Axe:
Good ice ax for the money. Works well for general mountaineering applications. It is a reliable tool that takes care of some safety concerns. On the minus side it is not top of the line. Could be lighter and grip could be better - try raven pro for wight reduction.

Comments about Black Diamond Raven Ice Axe:
Best bang for the buck, like the grip better than the petzl products. Does everything it's supposed to. And its an American company...

This is probably the best all-purpose all-around mountaineering axe available. It has a good feel in the hand and the molded grip is comfortable for all day use. Comfort, utility and durability make this axe a good choice.

Comments about Black Diamond Raven Ice Axe:
This axe got its first real workout a month ago on the slopes of Mt. Adams. I had initially thought I had bought too short of an ice axe as I really had to bend over to get the point to touch the ice (I bought the 65cm and I'm 5'10"). Once I reached a point where the axe was actually needed, though, I was sure glad I bought this length as it was perfect for making my way up the steeply sloped glacier. Otherwise, this axe is sharp, lightweight and easy to handle when matched with a good leash.
