As Smartwool states on their packaging, these are ‘seriously comfortable socks’. Made from 80% wool, 19% nylon, and 1% elastic, the Smartwool Merino fibers provide incredible efficiency in wicking away sweat and water, as well as maintaing an uncanny ability to control odor . The socks are versatile in providing superior regulation of body temperature by keeping feet plenty warm in the winter, and they were clockwork while we trudged through a significant amount of snow in the Colorado front range. These socks were built with extra heavy cushioning in mind, a feature that is a must when challenging yourself on a winter mountaineering ascent Color and size options are abundant, and for [$]retail, they may seem pricey but your feet will be thankful that they were wrapped in these babies.

I bought a pair of these with the expectation that I would need a sock change on a 2-day climbing trip. I was wrong. I wore these the entire time, and was comfortable the whole way. No blisters or hot spots, nice cushion and high length adds a bit of warmth. These are a bit pricey but if you wear them for days on end, you want a sock like this that can go the distance and keep your feet feeling good.

    I have tried others but these are the only socks I will use for mountain climbing. They are very warm and provide great padding. They dry fairly quick for a wool sock. My climbing boots do not have any insulation so a warm sock is very important for me. The price is a bit high but they are well worth it.

      I've had these socks for a few years now and use them quite heavily year round. They continue to be everything they were the day I bought them. You might think the price tag is a bit hefty, but when they last through several generations of other socks, you'll see where your money went.

        I have tried lots of different brand socks over the years but these are the best. So they may cost twice as much as other socks but they last 3 times as long as regular cheap socks. They will keep your feet warm, dry and have lots of cushion.

          I have worn these socks on a daily basis in Danner
          work boots summer and winter, and inside a pair of White's Pac-Boots in extreme cold conditions for the last 5 years while working in the forest. I wear a fresh pair each day, and with weekly washing they have held up great.I keep about 6 pair on hand, and I have only had to replace them about every 18 months on average.Drying them in the dryer takes a toll on the elastic in the upper part of the socks over time.They are a lofty sock and wick moisture away from your skin in hot or cold to keep your feet comfortable, and
          give additional cushioning to your feet.
