Jim moved to Minneapolis from Chicago in 1998 and started bike commuting as a way to get to the University of Minnesota, where he graduated with a degree in journalism. What started out as a form of transportation grew into a lifestyle, and he now rides his bike not only to his job at REI in Bloomington but to most places he has to go. He commutes about 100 miles a week and would have it no other way, even when the blizzards blow in. Along with riding his bike, he visits the Boundary Waters Canoe Area as often as he can. He and his wife Heidi spend too much money on books, and someday soon Jim hopes to have his own book of cycling adventures published. When he's not on the bike or at REI, you can find him bartending at a small bar in Dinkytown.
